My 2015 10 month old bike has suddenly started stuttering after you reach 6000 revs. If you pin the throttle open it stutteringly climbs to about 8k but won't go any further. Doesn't lose power at any point but won't smoothly climb or go over 8k. Same in Sport and Touring mode. I did find this old thread which talks about bad fuel and sticking exhaust valves. Tank was fairly empty when it first occurred so filled up but made no difference. Any thoughts?
Likewise, sounds like a stuck exhaust valve. Mine has been back to the dealer twice with this problem with 1000 miles on the clock. Take it back and insist they change the pre silencer which contains the valve. The dealer may try and fix the existing valve, which is what they did first with mine, but then it stuck again and now they've changed the presilencer. I assume it's under warranty. It's a problem with all of the bikes I reckon, the more Ducati have to stump up for it, the more likely a permanent fix?
I had the exact same issue. Thought it was a misfire but turned out to be exhaust valve. No error messages on dash about exhaust. Valve wasn't completely siezed, but enough to to cause the problem.
Thanks for the feed back. So it is a 2-hour round trip to the dealer then. And I am riding London-Leeds tomorrow so that will not be a fun trip.
Just get rid of the valve, it's more trouble than it's worth, all models suffer this problem. Either go for a decat system, or remove the valve from the exhaust system leaving the mechanism to operate freely keeping any dash display warnings at bay
If it is still under warranty I suggested just uncoupling the cable and living with error message until you get it back to dealer. Just take the black alloy fairing off exhaust. Cable and valve are behind it. Removing the valve (which is why I did) means at the least you need to break the tack welds the stop the screwsame in the butterfly valve coming undone. It is more likely that you will have to drill one or both of the screw heads off. That will invalidate any warranty. Personally I wouldn't ride it Leeds to London with the valve stuck shut.
lockwire it open, if it's already stiff then hopefully you can get it to seize in the open position like the one on my 2013 bike.
