916 Sp3 Starting Issue

  1. Hi guys gals
after wanting a Ducati since I was a spotty teenager with no money, I am now a 47 year old with no money, after doing a lot of searching I found a 916 sp3 with 20km and full service history and pretty mint for the year..
the bike has been started regularly but not used since 2007, iv now shipped it to the uk and fitted a new battery and although temperamental its started, when running it i noticed every now and then the temperature gauge would jump a few millimetre and drop back down to a normal level, but the bike ran ok for a bike that's not been used since 2007, anyway I park it up for a day or so and then decide to fire it up, it took ages to start, then I left it ticking over for 5 minutes while working on my rd, it cut out while ticking over, I then would start again, I guess if I spent more time I could get it running again, so my question is, is thee a common fault with the 916 regarding starting, im thinking it maybe a faulty thermostat sensor, so the bike doesn't know if its cold or hot and causing starting issues, any advice would be great..

  2. I should add I fitted a new battery

is there and diagnostic tools there for the 916?

  3. Started and run but not been used for 9 years, when was the last service/belt change?

  4. changed in 2007 not been on road since, its going to be the first job once I get it going, already rang around to get it booked in.

its had a oil and filter a month ago, the brake fluid plugs and air filter will also get changed.

  5. i'd add fuel filter to that. is it on 9 year old petrol?

  6. In that case better safe than sorry I wouldn't attempt to get her running without giving them an inspection first, it'll be difficult to resist the urge not to rev her up a bit and it could be catastrophic if an old perished belt lets go :Bawling:

She's something special so I'd make sure she was going to specialist Duc guys :upyeah:

  7. still stick on this one, got it running, knock it off it then wont start, tested the temp sensors with meter and they seem to be working, will try plug and fuel filter before getting it booked in for belts..
