Good Afternoon All, I am sure many of you have seen the news surrounding the tragic loss of life when one of CHC Scotia's EC225's ditched earlier this week. It is with reference to this that I am requesting some support from you good people on this forum. As an offshore worker myself, I have quite strong feelings surrounding this subject. I have been in the industry long enough to realise that all to often the feelings and opinions of both the offshore workforce and their families whom they leave behind each month are glossed over and swept under the carpet... There have been a significant number of incidents involving this particular Air Frame both within the North Sea and overseas... I am sure many will remember the 2009 incident where an EC225 operated by Bond ditched in the north sea, no personnel survived this incident either. Following the 2009 incident the air frames were grounded for approximately 18 months, following which it was announced that the gearboxes had a significant design flaw on one of it's shafts. Despite this, the CAA allowed them to be returned to service after the fitting of an early warning chip detection system had been fitted along with an oil spray system to try and mitigate moisture collecting within a recess of the flawed gearbox shaft. Needless to say they were soon back in regular use and the offshore workforce were left with no option but to accept this if we were to carry on working offshore. I for one hope to never have to fly on one of these air frames again and sincerely hope my wife and family don't have to go through the worry of us being forced to fly on these again. I apologise for the lengthy post and appreciate some may not have the desire or time to sign the petition in the link below, however I would be very appreciative if just a few would take a few minutes to show some support for the Offshore Workforce and add your name to the petition list. Petition · Civil Aviation Authority: Remove the Airbus 225 Super Puma from service · Change.org Please also feel free to share this petition via social media should you so wish. Many Thanks in advance, Ben.
Got my signature, in the week of Hillsborough the story with this aircraft type could turn out similar if no urgent action is taken.
Signed chap - would this have been permitted to still be in service if it was a passenger jet? Not a chance!
Wow! I would just like to say a big Thank You to all of you that have taken a few minutes out of your time and shown support for our campaign! The petition seems to have generated significant interest and has received over 10,000 supporters up to this point! I hope it continues this way and we can get the CAA to take appropriate action this time round. Again, Many Thanks! Ben.
Signed. The fact that the intact rotor head complete with all 5 blades detached from the aircraft is not good.
