I have recently bought a 2003 multistrada with 6000 miles on the clock and in showroom condition. My journey to work is a short one resulting in the plugs fouling causing the engine to stall, has anyone experienced this. Could the engine need remapping? My last bike had manual choke and had no problems. Can anyone help.
It could just want setting up properly, but if your journey is so short that the motor never warms enough to come off choke, then you are doing more harm than good tbh, if the oil never gets warm enough to burn off the condensate, you will quikly start to notice a milky substance building up on the sight glass, this is not good for the long term of the engine. some people cover the oil cooler during colder months, either warm the bike up before you set off, take a longer route to work, or take the bus.
Couldnt agree more. Twins take forever to warm up, two single pots out on their own not having the snuggleness of an inline four's motor? Tape up your oil cooler. Use heatproof foil tape and something heatproof/waterproof - your thermostat will keep the coolant trapped in the cylinders until the motor is warm enough, but the oil is pumped open-circuit around the engine as soon as you hit the starter?? Getting chilled before it is warm?? Get yourself a runaround and keep the duke for longer journeys! Short journeys/cold starts will KILL your bike.
