Hi got caught out in the snow last weekend...200 miles, rain, ice snow, made it all the way to my front door and dropped the fecker on the left hand side.. only damage is a busted hand guard (what are those things made off, FFS??), Hit the kill switch and picked it up.... it was running in gear on its side for maybe 5-10 seconds? however, I come to start it this morning and while it turns over pretty vigourously, it wont start and after a couple of rotations the word "errors" appears on the dash. Looking at the errors page in the dash menu only indicates "engine" as the possible source... looked over and checked all the connectors (only cursory, had to catch a flight) and everything looked ok... I'm hoping it's not a serious problem and something related to a damp connection, pulled wired... i've googled it, but the only thing i can find related to the "errors" message seem to be accompanied with all the dash lights flashing and a total melt down of the RBW/Dash computer... mines done 13K miles from new and never presented any issues thus far.. any advice gratefully recieved, I've not had time to phone the dealer yet...so you guys are my only hope.. Cheers Dave
Hi Dave, I had a similar issue with my 1100 once and had to go through an override procedure detailed below. Not sure if this will work for the 821 but you could check your manual. Cheers, Moses
Not sure on the Ducatis but on some ktms they have a 'tilt sensor ' so if it falls over it knocks the fuel pump off to kill it when it's on its side . Think the reset of it is something like diss connect battery terminal or such like . The duke may not have such a sensor but it's a thought
I know all harleys have tilt switches also. It maybe a legal requirement on bikes for some eu or us bikes
Thanks Lee, Thanks Shed Something else for me to have a look this weekend Appreciate the comments Dave
hello just an update to the issue on this thread... turns out the problem was a broken/corroded wire in the front fuse box for the fuel injection/pump. frustrating since i tried to take off the left hand tank plastics but didnt have the right tool to reach the fixing behind the plastic, but the AA chap was able to do it, then the problem was obvious.... that fuse box is in a bad state...the position of it under the front left hand fairing is pretty much primed to catch all the road crap straight off the front wheel. will be looking to have this replaced when the next service rolls around in a few weeks. if you're doing any bad weather riding i would recommend getting in there and protecting it with some silicone seal gunk. Back on the road now...was good to take a break from it...if only the realise again what a bloody fantastic bike this is
