Ducati did make a 1000SS that was a 992cc. Whether that is one or not, I don't know having never seen one. You can always check with Ducati if you have a frame and engine number. Andy
The 992 twin spark motor was developed for the multistrada in 2002. A year or so later it was used in the SS, monster and sport classics, then a couple of years later bored out to 1078 and called 1100ds and used in monster and multistrada. A couple of years after that new single spark heads were used in 1100evo monster. Afaik the 992 motors were all twin spark. The last 900 and 1000 SS had beefier swingarm than on that bike except for the 900S dark.
There were no single spark 1000ss models -if he insists it is and you are interested get a photo of the right hand side of the bike to see the plug lead out of the cambelt cover or not
So like the DS (992) but only one spark plug! The chap insists frame and engine numbers match and Ducati has confirmed it's a very rare 1000SS single spark. Everything off the 900 i.e.: suspension, wheels and clocks.
I like the 992 engine 'crammed' into a 900SS frame bit. As if the 992 motor is is so much physically larger it would barely fit...
Yes. That is the half faired. All the 1000(992) had a different dash to that using later ecu and electronic speedo, and 5 spoke wheels. That bike looks like it has non adjustable forks. All 900 dark spec. Well dodgy mate.

....I think he has reduced the price.........I'm sure that it was on ebay recently for around £6.5k or thereabouts.......and those exhausts are dire!
I would expect it is a 900ss injected model, 2001-02 that were imports that sat around and were registered later
I`m a big fan of the IE range but I think everything about this particular bike and advert screams out RUN AWAY !
Well I thought that and told him it was a 900 not a 1000 but he insists Ducati made this bike and it's not a ringer. Personally I wouldn't touch it as it is all wrong..the bike, the colour and those NOS Halfords chrome tail pipes from 1988..it's probably a 750 that was stolen etc etc etc... Who knows it might be a "rare" bike but I wouldn't give him £1200 for it. For £4500 you could get a virtually new 1000DS (if you could find one).
There is a nice red 2007 one on autotrader at the moment , just 6300 miles i think and £3895, down in Somerset. Still seems expensive though. I`m a little cross with myself as about 18 months ago I passed on one that was offered to me at £1750. It had a little cosmetic damage but nothing serious. Good service history too and from where I get mine serviced. Doh !
I bought mine this year..it's mint and I mean like new but with 24k miles. Didn't bother me with the miles as it was so good, I paid £2400..bargain. If I come across another I think i'll buy it as they are such good bikes, the engine is a peach and sounds amazing, brakes are ace suspension top notch but firm. I can't ride it for long unless at speed as the old wrist ache is something else, but what a bike.Here's mine.. New 1000ss Owner
That`s a beauty for sure, well done and I`m quite envious. I never had a 1000ss but I had 3 x 900ssie and then the 1000 engine in a multistrada. I sold the last 900 as like you I could not ride it for long without suffering and I seemed to be spending more time getting the gear on and off than actually riding. Wouldnt stop me getting a 1000 now if I saw a good one at the right price, logic does not come into it.
I don't know much about the IE versions of the SS variants........but that silver/grey one is bugging me: 1) As someone already said, it's an HF not an FF. 2) It has a steel swingarm a la 750 - I thought 900s and above had ally ones. 3) It appears to have the Sachs Boge shock.....I thought the 750s had them. 4) I thought 2003 models onwards had different wheels??
