Hi Folks! Got my Mutley going in for it's "run in" service in a couple of weeks and was keen to get a Scottoiler fitter at the same time. Only thing I'm not keen on is where they show the reservoir being fitted on the trellis frame!! ersevere: I've got a pet hate of wire etc showing and would like the reservoir hiden out of sight if possible like I had on my old ZZR1200. Has anyone fitted the reservoir somewhere out of site like under the seat etc (or somewhere else) if so how has it been? also does anyone have experience with the electronic version?? any info (and pictures if possible) would be greatly apprecaitred! many thanks in advance.
Had my Scottoiler fitted by my dealer M & S Motorcycles in Newcastle and it works a treat. The three pics attached are the options they provided me for locating the reservoir. I went for the one under the riders seat.
Do or have you had any issue with the unit leaking under the seat? I like that option the best as when I looked on their website wasn't keen on it being mounted on the trellis frame. Why spoil a thing of beauty! How have you found it in real life operation?
As long as you don't overfill it you should be fine. I find the tubing quite fiddly for topping up the reservoir, so I just pull the rubber connector away on the reservoir tube itself. I don't fill beyond that point and make sure it stays pointed upwards. It doesn't move as it's quite a tight fit. I went on an 11 day tour of Portugal and Spain last year and it worked fine with no leaks.
For what it's worth I've been very happy with the PD Oiler which I fitted to my ZZR1400. The control unit lived under the seat and once set up for the correct delivery setting I never touched it. The product lacks some of the options available for the Scottoiler such as a high capacity reservoir but it costs less than half the price of the electronic Scottoiler and you can use chain saw oil (a frequently debated issue with Scottoilers). Having used both, in my opinion there is little to choose between the two in terms of functionality but the cost difference is huge.
PD Oiler gets my vote. Fitted mine on my 749, it can be fine tuned via control unit to regulate oil drip rate and I routed mine so the chain is oiled on the front sprocket, Hidden away so you cant see. Done a couple trips to both Italy and France with it fitted not one problem and as the oil is pump feed so the temperature or oil viscosity doesn't affect flow rate. Cleaner rear wheel than with chain wax or dry lube and easier to wipe off when cleaning
