Have just picked up an ex-Euro model 2000 model 996 BP with mono conversion (and very nice it is, too). Currently readying it for UK registration and MOT, so fitting a UK headlight off my garage shelf, But.....what? The one on the shelf and the one on the bike look the same - how do I tell the difference? Mine on the left, Euro 996 on the right. Reflector and glass lenses look the same. All suggestions welcome!
Remove the projector beam half of the lamp. Remove the back of the projector and there is a baffle which is the cut-off for the dip beam:- So I trimmed the left side of the Euro reflector until it looked like the UK one, and added a strip of aluminium to fill in the gap on the right side of the Euro reflector. All now re-assembled and ready to go back on the 996. Just need an MPH speedo fitting and we're ready for the MOT.
The best thing to do is file that shield flat to give a flat beam. The next best thing to do as you are that deep into the headlight is to throw away the projector completely and fit a £15 Bi projector from fleabay. That would give you a dip and main beam in one light for the same amount of electricity. I have at least six of those parts the you show laying around the garage here. I am assuming that one side is dip and one is main, make sure that there is no shield in the main and if there is then remove it for more light output. My 848 had an upside down dip in the main beam side! Edited to say: I see that the last sentence does not apply as the main is a normal reflector and not a projector.
Thanks - might pursue those options once MOT is safely out of the way and I have a UK registration in my grubby little paws.
You spotted it's a BP pad on a Mono seat unit, eh? I already have a mono pad on another, older SP seat unit which I will be fitting. Might be nice to have another spare, though. How much are you wanting? Feel free to send PM if you'd rather not post publicly.
