I have a 2000 996 SPS. Lately a problem occured. The bolts on the brake disc are touching the speedo-drive. I've checked everything several times, but can't figure this out. When I tighten the axle nut(with correct torque), the fork leg pushes the speedodrive in to the bolts on the brakedisc. I've removed the wheel several times during the years, and it have never been a problem. No parts are missing. Anyone??
Hi mate and welcome to the forum... When you last took your front wheel out, did you change the bearings and forget to fit the bearing spacer? I bet you did but just in case...
that's a strange one, particularly as you said you have changed wheel several times without a problem. I could only guess that it involves the speedo drive assy in some way as i've come across more melted/broken/distorted ones than I have normal ones over the years. Sometimes the plastic body can start to part company with the steel sleeve part of the assy.
Take it out and start again. Check everything. If it's still hitting and there is no spacer issue surely it can only be discs
If you have not replaced anything then I would agree with Chris's diagnosis about the drive unit distorting or coming apart. I had a similar problem, but it was after fitting new discs. There was a small recess for the bolt head to seat into on the alloy carrier of the original cast-iron full floaters, but there was no recess on the carrier of the new Brembo discs that I fitted. Some nice, stainless, dome-headed allen bolts supplied by Cornerspeed cured the issue.
