1200 DVT Paint Rubbing Off

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Jordan, Jun 2, 2016.

  1. Has anyone else experienced the issue of paint fading around the frame by your boot, and more importantly rubbing back to the metal on the swingarm below the area the chain passes through?

Found these to protect/hide :coldsweat: the frame damage: R&G RACING Boot Guard Kit Ducati Multistrada 1200S (2015) | eBay

However the swingarm coating seems very fragile, and I'm not sure how that damage will be resolved, Could you call a defect there and try the dealer?

  2. If it's in warranty I'd definatly have a word with the dealer.

  3. Personally I would fit some clear sheet, like ventureshield.
Short of putting some sheet over the flat bit, there is nothing else to do.

The paint has rubbed through on the raised bit around the swinging arm pivot of my 2012, but I don't think it looks bad, certainly not enough to want the frame part changing.

Certainly have a word with the dealer first though.

  4. They've done that since my 2010 multi. Won't ever be fixed and they don't let you claim for anything that's not functionality based. It looks nasty doesn't cut the mustard when you're asking for a new frame. Poor show of them to continue to repeat the same mistakes. When will we wake up and let go of brand loyalty.

  5. Heres some pics. Flash hides the rubbing somewhat on the second pic, although my main gripe is the swingarm damage,
Will give the dealer a call tomorrow and see what response I get. Only a year/ 4000 miles old.

  6. I had an issue where my foot was rubbing the paint off the clutch cover, I asked about claim under warranty and the reply from Ducati was along the lines of "it will kind of happen if your foot rubs against it"
Can't say I was impressed after only a few months of use, especially for the cost of the bike, so I put some material over the area to protect it from further wear. But my frame is looking pretty much the same, the swing arm seems ok at the moment.

  7. I can guarantee Ducati is not going to replace swingarms or frame parts because your boot rubbed

  8. They absolutely will not replace those under warranty. What they should do, is protect the parts from the factory like the premium manufacturer they are still pretending to be. The "that'll happen when you're foot rubs against it" annoys me. You designed the ergonomics of the bike so you knew this would happen.

  9. It happens to all bikes, everyone places their foot differently.
I love the feel of my heel on the swingarm , I love my scuffs.
People just have to learn to get over it

  10. Just put 3M helicopter blade tape (clear type) over the clutch and Swing arm areas. Has worked well for me for over 11K miles and no marks and not worn though the tape. Also have some on the exhaust guard as my heel rubs that.

  11. Exactly what I used too, hardwearing stuff.

  12. I wouldn't expect a new swingarm, just not something I've come across on a bike before and I've always riden toes on pegs majority of the time.
The 3m is a great idea, any thoughts on touching up the paint/coating before applying protection, it's become one of those things that I spot immediately.

  13. What's it like to get off Veetwin ?

  14. My first thought is to speak with Phil @ RS Bike Paint, he was very helpful when i was after red for my panniers, maybe they have something you could use.

  15. No problem to remove - it is tough stuff and quite elastic so lift a corner and use pliers to pull it off, it may leave an adhesive residue and I use White Spirit (doesn't harm any paintwork) to remove any stuck on glue residue.
