Right gents. I have a Garmin zumo 590LM and want to mount it via a RAM mount on the handle bar clamp bolts. Anyone which is best and where to get online?? Regards Steve
i got a bar mount recently off ebay,, cant remember who exactly but there were plenty,,, EU not china
This is designed to replace one of the bolts that holds the handle bar clamp in place. I have bought from this company on Amazon with no problem. Think it should be just what you need! RAM 1" BALL BASE WITH HOLE: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike
The problem with a RAM ball mounting is that you have to work out where you want the SatNav to be positioned. In a central position, the SatNav is likely to obscure the bike's instrument panel, or be obscured by the tank bag, or be too far below your line of sight while riding. But if the SatNav is off to the side, it swing to and fro as the handlebars are moved. Since the DVT has a lot more lock available than before, it swings a long way and it might foul the windscreen on full lock. I managed to find a position which works, but it took some experimenting.
I bought my RAM mount from my local Infinity as I was messing about at the shop with a selection to see what fitted best and mounted well on the bike I ended up with the bar clamp, the short bar and fits well just off to the left of the instrument display. With bars straight It only covers the clock display a little on the pre DVT 1200GT
They have some good reviews as I've seen them doing heavy laptop mounts also for in-car kits. RAM Mount UK
I meant to take a pic tonight while test packing panniers , my bad, i'll try to remember tomorrow as the one I have doesn't show the clamp only the position of the sat nav. I would suggest some electrical tape on the bar prior to a clamp mount to protect the paint...ask me how I know
This is what I use with a short bar clamp and it works very well. The Zumo ends up just below and parallel to the dash.
I use this in the top left hole of the bar clamp. The sat nav sits to the bottom left of the dash and doesn't cover anything. As it's near the middle you don't get the movement of one on the bars. It could be higher and more central but it world fine.
The top yolk one with a short RAM arm worked for me, unless you have a tank bag on, so I got the Navihalter, which is a much better solution.
I would try cable-tying it down there for a couple of rides to see how you like it. I find the clocks a bit low, so the navi even lower just wouldn't work for me. It's definitely going to disappear completely if you use any kind of tank bag. I went with the Navihalter too and it's just right. It even gave me a place to mount the front camera on my dash-cam setup too.
