2009 Hypermotard 1100s - Error Code 37.0

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by david martin, Jun 16, 2016.

  1. I bought a used Hypermotard a couple of weeks ago and it has been running fine. I decided to treat it to a wash and afterwards it would not start - yellow engine management light came on. I switched the ignition on and off a couple of times and the engine management light went out and the bike fired and ran intermittently. Shortly after that it would fire up at all with the engine management light on.

I checked various connections for water ingress but nothing was obvious. When looking through the manual I noticed a list of engine fault codes and followed the procedure and found the code 37.0 which relates to the immobiliser.

The bike is fitted with a Scott damper. I pulled the plastic surround and found moisture around the ring. I dried it and refitted it but it is still the same. The bike will run when the immobiliser is overridden but it is still showing the code.

Any ideas? I have searched the web and some people say it could be the antenna ring.....is this the thin plastic ring that fits inside the cover that goes outside the ignition barrel? I hope that makes sense?? I managed to find an image on Google to show what I mean......

    Thanks in advance....

  2. lots of wd40 I reckon will help, check front coil, lead & plug.
If it's any consolation my engine management light has been on for 3 years... if it sometimes cleared it then it would come back after washing (not jetwash, bucket & sponge)dealers couldn't sort it during warranty so put black tape over it & I forget about it.

  3. Try putting a couple of washers on top of the cover studs to raise the antenna a couple of mm above the ignition lock. This will put the transponder in the key nearer to the antenna.

  4. My 1198 shows Immo 37 usually once every ten attempts to start and has done for months, have tried and done everything and now have the override code tattooed on my forehead (backwards) as use it so much*.

*this bit might not be true

  5. Thanks for the advice. I am trying to dry out the antenna ring as I suspect this to be the problem. For what it costs I will also buy a new one and fit that if the drying out doesn't work. I will also try the washer fix mentioned above in case the antenna is a few mm low and not reading the key.

Does anyone on this forum know if these are coded or are they just a plug in part that picks up the code from the key?

  6. The antenna is plug and play

  7. I have a carbon cover so the antenna ring just floats around the barrell. Do you think this could be the problem?

  8. Use some clear silicone to fix it in place

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  9. It is the key sense thingy out of place, it needs to be spot on or with a lot of water no go, have had lots of bikes here with that in heavy rain...

  10. I did think about trying the key in the ignition without the ring holder and move the ring up and down to see if the yellow light goes out with the ring in height different positions.....
