1200 Fording - How High

  1. So, sitting in the office with the multi parked outside, I'm listening to the thunder and the reports of flooded London. I'll be riding through it all soon and it has got me wondering - how high do you think you can ford, on a multi?

My 2010 has standard pipes, but there is what looks to be a vent in the front belt cover.

  2. Have you seen the ural adventure promo video that was doing the rounds? Some serious fordage.

  3. Theoretically below the air-intake so level with the seat. But you wouldn't want to stop & allow water down the exhaust.

  4. Duct tape the belt cover vent, makes sure the bow wave doesn't reach the beak and keep the revs up and you should be fine. In very similar conditions I took my ST4s through a flooded underpass on the A3 and it ran fine with the water above the front mudguard and up to my knees. Impressive amounts of steam though!

  5. Water was the least of my worries on the way home. Loud ticking/knocking, random exhaust popping and at constant throttle was losing power, then surging. Crap!

  6. yea m25 was at his wettest yesterday, with litteraly water rivers coming off cars.

    mine performed perfectly.

somewhere else in another comment somone said that belt intake is fine for water ingress.

yesterday kinda proved mts good for extreme wetness - even at reasonably high motorway bowing speed

  7. I was pulling decent motorway speeds in the wet (M25 like you). Just at times sounded funny, more like a thumping single, then in 5th and 6th would drop power at constant throttle, then surge back?!?
