6ft and long legs so no problem there Will checkout the SMT too and put it forward. I think it's more me than him with the apprehension of a Multi, I just don't want him getting yet another bike and it doesn't work out. He will always have the 899 when he wants it though unless I'm with him and on it as it will be my only bike. The Hyperstrada was just too small as a tourer and a Big Bang R1 was too much of an animal for leisurely rides, plus the under seat exhaust burnt your bum off.
MT 10 would be an option also. Mega bucks cheaper and a great bike looking at reviews. Big screen and panniers available.
No, just need something easier to handle for a while. Still using the 899 but a Multi is all round an easier outing
Hey Cake I guess some folk don't read full threads but your concern for your Dad is obviously well founded regardless of age. I think like many others who have ended up on a Multi I feel I've had a healthy mix of what went before - VFR 750, tricked up Blackbird, ZX12R, ZX10R, GS, K13R, SMT... I've just picked up my Multi DVT and whilst I haven't had a chance to put a lot of miles on, it feels like it's already giving me the best of all previous bikes rolled into one. If you're going to hold on to the 899 for hooning about on, I'd say the only danger for your Dad will be you stealing the Multi when he's not looking after you have a rattle on it I'm 49, relatively short arse at 5'8" but find the tall seat setting more comfortable and closer to what I was used to on the SMT. Just get him to test ride one, he'll make his own mind up about it. What I think you can't get enough of is good service - I'd have no work if I didn't give the best in my marketplace and that provided by our only dealership here in Norn Iron at Millsport is already outstanding, so if you can, check out a couple of dealers. Wish you both the best and a good laugh in checking out the bike
Thank you all - I can see that this isn't a full on-tourer and really is a diverse bike with plenty of potential. He has said only this weekend that Multi isn't an 'if' but a 'when'. We have a relationship with a dealer while not perfect at the start we have always got what we want in the end and always good prices. I'm actually tempted by jumping on a multistrada, following this thread, reviews and other threads it sounds as quite some fun and more to what I am use to. So im sure I will be taken out by me a few times I have already purchased some parts ready for the arrival as he wants to go a certain route with so when the time comes I'll sneak it away and set it up
Yeah - I'm 47! and thought "he must be in his 80's or something..." - says me a. looking at my hypermotard in the car park and b. looking at the fuck-off massive pair of K&N's (on my desk in the office) which are getting bolted on tonight....TO THE DYNO!!!
