Had to change the banjo and bleed nipple in the clutch slave cylinder. Tried pushing fluid through with a syringe from slave cylinder. Really difficult. If I crack the nipple any further fluid just starts dripping from the nipple, just doesn't feel normal - loads of resistance? Eventually got some fluid to show in the master reservoir on handlebars. Topped up to the mark but still clutch won't activate ? Tried bleeding in the traditional manner pump, open nipple, close then let go etc. But only fills 4 inches of the tube and no more no matter how many cycles I go through. Any ideas anyone ? It's an St4s 2002, slave cylinder is aftermarket type. Everything else standard.
Traditional should be open, pump, close, release. Try a cable tie tight round the clutch lever overnight with the cap on loose.
Vacuum bleed kit is the way to go if you've access to a compressor. Soooo much easier and quicker. You can also get manually operated ones. Traditional way will eventually work but can really take some time with certain brakes. I had a nightmare with an underslung Monster rear once and nothing would get any fluid through it enough to create pressure. That's when I bought the vacuum bleeder and I've never looked back. I always tend to finish off with a little traditional bleeding at the end and you can try taking the caliper off and hanging it up as high as you can to aid the bleeding process. The air will rise up through what fluid you've been able to get in at that point. Tying up the leaver and leaving it overnight also helps massively as had already been suggested. Basically time and patience are your friends!
As you already have a syringe, try using it to pull the fluid through, instead of pushing fluid uphill. Personally I have never had much success pushing brake fluid up in to the reservoir
Many thanks pulled it through with syringe and the odd squeeze of the leber... eventually all's well after persistence for an hour or so.
