Evening all, had 600 mile service done today, took ages since buying as we been on hols etc, anyhow, bike seems a little reluctant to rev compared to my 2014 bike ? While I'm keeping within the 7000-7500 rpm listed in book, I kinda expected it to rev quicker past 5000 now I'm allowed to. My 2014 took time to loosen up, so I'm guessing the DVT is the same, but anybody else have an opinion or experience with this? Cheers in advance.
When i enquired about gently upping the revs after 1st service the service manager said just go out and enjoy the bike...no need to baby it after first service... So i did...........
Appreciate the response, but book says 1500 miles, so it gets 1500 miles. Was the same with my last one and it never burnt a single drop of oil in 30 months of getting royally thrashed, so will do the same again, but it seems reluctant to get up to the dizzy rev heights anyway ?
i know what you mean , my bike feels a bit lethargic on revving sometimes as well but i put that down to me getting used to it after having the Panigale for the past 4 years...Hopefully it will "loosen" up a bit as the mile count goes up..
Nice weather today, so gonna take it out and put a few more miles on it, my 2014 was rev happy and I loved it, if this does not loosen up and remains a little lazy, then there's gonna be a very cheap, very low miles DVT for sale, and a Super Duke R in its place, that'll learn it !!! :
I don't remember seeing the 1500 miles thing anywhere ? 600 miles and I was away , and never had the issues you speak of ??
It's in the manual, 5500rpm for 1000km, then 7000rpm till 2500kms I believe, but its defo in manual. Page 336. Mine actually got better today following another 300 plus miles, so fingers crossed.
The expression "break in" is rather crude, don't you think? Implies the bike is now broken. I prefer the more subtle "running-in".
My apologies, I had no idea the site was equipped with "expression police" I shall watch my step in future M'lud !! However, when the term "break in" was used in the title with no mention of bikes, I'm guessing it more implies to a burglary ? Whereby "running in" refers to some sort of athleticism without direction ? So really, both expressions are nonsense, but again my humblest of apologies and I shall jolly well watch my expressions in future
Feel free to use crude, vulgar, or offensive expressions all you like, alongside subtle, elegant, and sophisticated ones, @Wayne58 . I try to.
I opted for the 600 steadyish miles then thrash the tits off it procedure I obviously didn't read page336
Know what you mean. Miss the 'rawness' of my old 2010 Multi with the Leo Vince - that was more eager to rev than my DVT, but to be honest my DVT does seem to get better with use. Just clocked 5000 miles and like others have said in other posts, it does seem to 'loosen' up after 3000 miles or so and run better. Or could be I just getting used to it !!! Just back from a tour of the Alps, and it ran good there....
Ive got the Enduro, and it too seems a little reluctant to rev (more so between 4,000 and 6,000). It feels tight and a little bogged down. I thought it was the exhaust valve limiter but i think that opens around 3,500 revs. very different power delivery to my KTM 1190 Adventure (which was very free revving and linear). The Enduro has caught me out a couple of times over taking, I now change down everytime, hopefully it will loosen up.
Mine now getting better and its at 1300 miles, still miss the fun of the 2014 a bit, and still think it handled a little better, but from memory, the suspension actually got better with time as well, so will hold on to the DVT a little longer yet, but if I dont like it...... Super Duke coming !! Again, that'll learn it !!
After the 1500 mile prescribed running procedure in the book my DVT's engine was still very tight. You'll know when it really starts to loosen up when the starter will actually turn the engine over without stalling. I really noticed a big different as it approached 3000 miles, at which point it became a completely different bike.
thrash the toys offa it. Toys? I meant tits... Run it in like a granny it will be a grannys engine...
Run it in like a granny it will be a grannys engine...[/QUOTE] I don't want to get confrontational at all, but this is based on what exactly ?? After 30+ years of riding, and 30+ of being in engineering, my bikes always result in good performance comparing with mates, and never burn oil etc if run in correctly. I trust the engineers more who design these things than I do you who I have no knowledge of, so with respect, that sounds like utter horse shit !! ...... Shall I get my coat now ???
