2002st4s, 10 000 miles. Bike will not go into neutral with engine switched on or off ? Always been a bit tricky to find it with engine running but no big deal. Clutch drag never been a noticeable issue. came back from big ride at weekend and couldn't get neutral on the drive before getting off. so after trying and trying switched it off and still won't find it. Bike cooled down and re checked without starting. Same issue really difficult (I mean 10 minutes difficult) to find neutral. Getting first also tricky with engine switched off. Rocked wheel back and forth etc. To help it but something weird going on. During the ride.... towards the end... the gear lever also started to feel a bit sloppy when downshifting to first...any ideas would be much appreciated.
The gear lever return spring has probably broken. It keeps the lever centred and if it breaks downward shifting becomes very difficult, you have to lift the lever with your toe after each downward shift.
