1098 Cnc Rearsets

  1. So i am about to upgrade my rearsets. I like the CNC Racing WSB limited edition.

The issue I have is that they are only avaliable in reverse shift....so the question I have is, can I invert the shift arm at the gear input shaft and thus still retain the "street" shift pattern. I cant think why it would not be possible but maybe somebody here has already considered it ?

  2. Unlikely. See where the gear peg mounts to the arm? The nut on the back sits in a slot in the arm to stop it turning. If you reverse the arm, the slot is on the wrong side. (Also, if you reverse the arm the writing won't show and that simply isn't acceptable! There are standards to be maintained, you know!)

  3. Thanks razz... I was actually meaning the small arm that clamps onto the gear input shaft at the motor...like this pic...

  4. Having re-read your original post, I am an idiot!

  5. :smirk: Dont be too hard on yourself mate....:sunglasses:

  7. Hi folks, new to forum from across the pond. Yes, a damn yank, someone tell Rob!!! I use to call Bicester in Oxfordshire home years ago when I worked at Reynard Racing cars. I joined post because I'm looking for a 1098RS swingarm for my track bike and saw this thread. Actually I just bought the CNC rearsets and they retain standard shift pattern. Also very nice piece of kit, seriously top notch with zero play in any of the moving parts once mounted. The rather odd thing is they come with folding foot pegs as opppsed to normal race pegs that are fixed. The toe pieces on both brake and shifter are also foldable. This is a very nice kit, you won't be disappointed. I also bought their triples, with the -4mm offset to arrive at 30mm the magic number for the 848/1098/1198. Check out Carbonworld out of Germany on eBay, they usually have them for sale cheaper than most.

  8. Hello DJ23, welcome.
I ended up getting the rear sets and your correct, very nice items. Most of the aftermarket bits I have are from CNC...
I also have one of their offset triples comming...should arrive soon, and as you will appreciate, I had to upgrade to a set of FGRT forks at the same time, arriving about the same time....:sunglasses:
Did you encounter any issues with your rear brake light switch when you fitted you rearsets ?
Good luck finding a swingarm.....have you considered a carbon fiber one ?

  11. No issues with brake light yet, but thanks for heads up! The rearsets have been test fit, but currently sitting under engine in this pic. Triples just arrived and are sitting in box. Looking at fitting a 1098SF swingarm if I can't find an RS version, but that's a project in itself. Lots of cutting, fabrication and welding. As you can see, rear brake still disconnected.

Unfortunately, project is kind of on hold this last month because I got hit by a car on my cruiser early September. Nothing broken but right foot badly sprained. Bike landed on it, lots of bruising and road rash. Be careful out there! Track is much safer!

  12. LOL, that looks familiar!

  14. I like your rear shock setup...another thing i have planned to do. Is that a Kyle link ? I been looking at his parts for a while now.

  15. Yes, Kyle link is knockoff off the Corse product. Very high quality, and about a third of the price. Though if you go to Forza Moto they have a genuine Corse Link/rocker for sale right now. 480 Euro - pretty good price as they were about 1350 Euro new. Just remember you will need the Ohlins DU343 to make this work.

I would of grabbed this piece of kit, but they don't sell to the US. I took bike out to the track for first time in May and damn thing would not turn in slow corners with stock setup. So yeah, I bought the first iteration of the TTX (DU788) stiffer springs front and rear to match my weight and it was better (DU788 has Both rebound and damping adjustable) but still didn't feel right our of corners on track (I used to race years ago so know what it should feel like). So started poking around and figured well shit, I'm in this deep might as well do it right. Started doing research and discovered that the triples need to be at 30mm offset (Stock is 36mm) so bought the CNC Althea ones, so beautiful!. Rear ride height using a Corse ride height adjuster or Kyle knock off as seen in the pic is set at 235mm from center of rear axle to top of tool. (+ or - 5mm) then set your static and laden sag accordingly. Flatter rear rocker keeps the rear spring rate at closer to zero (opposed to a rising rate) which helps acceleration out of slow corners, but you will need the new TTX GP (DU343) with the shortened bottom clevis. It's 5mm shorter that the DU788, which is about 10mm shorter that the stock unit that comes on the bike. Kyle Racing has them available but not many left. I just talked to Mike at DKR a couple weeks ago. FGRT's are next on list. it's funny I have about $19K in new upgrades on a bike I spent $10,500 on. It's a sickness, we all know to well. New Corse 4 spring slipper clutch, Akrapovic Evolution that I had to source from various places all over the world (Netherlands, US, Germany, Italy and Slovenia) to piece together and build myself because they do not exist and longer, and I just got a new 1198R aluminum tank. New 1198R Marchesini Wheels. Brake Tech Iron rotors are last thing to buy unless I decide to do CF bodywork. It's funny, I could of bought a new Panigale R, would of been about the same cost. But this is "MY" build, that I always wanted to do. Have some more pics if your interested. The swingarm challenge is proving tricky...

Also look up in the forum the guy in Abu Dabi that did the 1198SP build, his is very similar and lots of good lessons he shares and some cool parts. His body work is gorgeous!

  16. Here is a photo of the stock unit that comes on the 1098S, the DU788 Mk1 and the TTX GP. Notice how each version as a shorter bottom clevis?

  17. Oops, let's try that again... Here is a photo of the stock unit that comes on the 1098S, the DU788 Mk1 and the TTX GP. Notice how each version as a shorter bottom clevis?
