As it was a lovely autumnal day, still, dry and mild, I took the Multi out for a spin around the Mendips this afternoon. She's had her 600 mile service now and the engine is gradually starting to loosen up. The revised engine mapping that was done at the service also seems to have reduced the flat spot around 3,000 revs a bit as well. All was going extremely well until I stopped at a BP garage in Cheddar to refuel. Although I had carefully ensured that the nozzle of the pump was fully inside the tank the fuel came out of the nozzle with such force that it actually sprayed out of the tank in the process. I can't remember this ever having happened to me before. It might have been my mistake, but I didn't think it was. Fortunately I didn't let it spoil my afternoon, as there were still plenty of twisty roads still to visit at that point. Unfortunately some ended up on the screen with the result that I now have a marked screen. Luckily there doesn't seem to have been any other damage, although its going to take a while for the sleeve of my jacket to stop smelling of petrol. I was thinking of getting a touring screen, but I suspect that this has rather speeded up the decision. Has anyone else out there tried the Ducati Gran Turismo screen, and if so what did they think? I'm only 5' 8" and the standard screen in its higher position is pretty good at reducing helmet buffeting, although I'm aware that another inch on top of the standard screen would improve things considerably. Thanks Greg
Happen to me on the first fill up of my enduro & the screen also was blemished. Really not impressed with the ducati dash-plastic, as my beemer with closing in on 95,000 miles is still crystal clear. So it isn't like I'm a fucking idiot or so I let myself believe.
Be careful....ive managed to splash petrol on 2 sets of clocks now (hypermotard) and both of them have marked/stained - something ducati "should" look at but along with pig the iron fixings but i doubt they will....it would be nice if i could buy the clock glass (if you can call it that) as a part but im 99% sure you cant...
I managed to stupidly splash fuel over my clocks on my multi dvt about 3 months ago, I did manage to get them replaced under warranty, as there is a known problem with the display anyway, I did expect to get questioned when I took my bike in for them to change the clocks, but no questions were asked, Bit naughty, but I'm sure Ducati can absorb the cost somewhere along the line! ...after all the buggers did have my pants right down by charging me £220 for basically an oil & filter change !! Steve
The standard windscreen can be polished with plastic (perspex) polish Do not waste your money on the touring screen - it makes the buffeting worse (I am 5'7") I actually bought one then cut it down substancially (lower than standard) to improve things. Recently I also painted inside to black it out and hide Navi I also put in and extra hole and screw to tie the screen and adjuster that the Navi Halter is mounted to together for extra support and less vibration on the Navi Unit.
Paint:smile: I bought Matt Black Plastic Paint from Halfords in a rattle can. (£ 8 or £ 9) Easy enough (and i am crap at spray painting) - it has a very rough finish on inside ( rough as in matt - not bad) but shinny on outside as the gloss comes from the screen. No issues with flaking or peeling so far. Cleaned the screen with alcohol to remove the oil before I painted and masked up to the edges and the face. Took maybe 2 hours - probably put on 5 coats of paint - apply wait 15 minutes. Apply / Wait.....
I've darkened screens in the past using the stuff that's sold for tinting car tailights. I sprayed it onto the inside of the screen until I achieved the shade I wanted. Several light coats gave the best result.
I have the GT screen and it's brilliant, the only time I have to set it to high is if the wife is on the back and we're "getting on a bit" and that's not buffering it's so we can speak to each other on our scala head sets with out wind noise, I think the air goes over me and drops down behind causing wind noise in the helmet. I have the X tour 4 helmet and the only time I've had a problem with it shaking was when I was pacing a BMW S1000 RR at unbelievable speeds boy was he pissed when we stopped at Devils Bridge rofl
