Whats the R8 vs 911 running costs like? Always fancied a 911, but the R8 looks and seems a right weapon
Slight £££ adjustment maybe ?? Or just a straight swap ? You never showed up when I had kettle on, so you're not getting mates rates now !!
You'll find a lot of cars lacking in the build-quality department if you stray too far. The Macan is a pretty good candidate, as are the Audi Q range... they do have SUV associations I guess, so perhaps something like an M5 estate or well-specced AMG E or C class might also be worth some consideration? Bizarrely, after some really good experiences in Dutch taxis and a blast in a friend's one... The Tesla Model S is really actually quite good, if you overlook some of the US fit and finish shortcomings, and the obvious lack of "vroom vroom" noises. They're pretty quick off the line and you don't half surprise other road users.
Very similar, but I genuinely prefer the R8, buts its not a car for shrinking violets. I had 4 911's over the years, and very few folk even knew which one was the turbo, except 911 fans, or paid you any notice (which is nice sometimes)....But the R8 is nuts, people take pics and videos off the pavement or on the motorway, and its very tricky to park anywhere without positive comments.(which is nice too, but you never get piece driving it) As for running it, the V10 is a little thirstier than the flat 6's, the Audi is bomb proof reliable in V10 guise, but cokes up quite bad as a V8 (And is not that quick as V8). When you open the taps, the V10 is much more dramatic than 911, but when taking it easy or cruising on motorway, is much more refined, I also think the R8 handles better, has better brakes but the steering on both is equal. The gearbox on the 911 is slightly crisper, but not much in it, as I love the gated shifter on the Audi. Also, you don't get that 911 light front end anywhere as the big lumps in the middle. I love 911's don't get me wrong, but IMO, the R8 is a better car, only IMO you understand. Just don't buy one if you loathe attention, albeit positive from everyone I have spoken to about it.
Not brilliant at transcontinental runs though eh ? Having to stop every 200 yards to fill up with electric :-(
Well that is the thing, you're looking 300 miles on a... er... "tankful" and then those Tesla superchargers are *very* common on the continent. It's still not a no-brainer... but it's less silly a proposition than it once was.
Probably not much in it I would expect. My 997 turbo`s running costs are pretty much the same as my old 1 series. Servicing at a local indy isnt expensive, it has 20k service intervals if you do it by the book which more than the wifes old diesel car. Tyres are actually cheaper than the run flats on my 1 series was. Insurance has just cost me £25 more at £400 fully comp, 16k miles a year. Roadtax is high as its in the higher brand, but when you work it out per week its nothing. Im getting about 25mpg, which means fuel is a high cost, but smiles per mile is ridiculous. Biggest factor for me was the depreciation. I lost 12k in 4 years on my 1 series in depreciation alone. Looking at the prices atm my 997 probably has actually gone up in value by 3k over the last 6 months.
Surely it's Macan ? Thats what the Porsche man said when I was there ??? What is Mecan ?? I even googled it ??
Oh don't even get me started on Volvo driver's......................Did it come with free brown leather driving gloves???
XC60, only D4 2wd. Its ok to drive copy enough. Does what it needs to. Gearbox better than the Merc I just got rid of. Couldn't face a Q series, X3/5 a bit 'drug dealer' and couldn't afford a RR Sport (which is 'lot' drug dealer) and only going to be a workhorse Plan is to get a second nice car in next 2 years, hence the Q's re R8 vs 911. Something I can use at weekends, occasional work day bit won't (unlikely) cost me the earth in maintenance
