Some of the old timers may recall i did a demo day a long time ago in 2008. It was a KTM Rc8 in the morning and a Ducati 1098S in the afternoon. I was stunned at the time just how good the 1098S was and how it went, handled, stopped and felt.... Just bloody brilliant. Circumstances never worked out and the planets never really aligned.... until today. Today i've just been and paid for this beast of a machine after Mrs Weeksy gave it a test ride. It's just lovely... lovely in so many ways i can't even count... As for what happens with me and not riding bikes, well i think we can safely say i will ride this, i simply cannot resist a ride on a 1098S, especially one i own ! The only thing Mrs Weeksy didn't like was the gearing, too lumpy, so we'll chuck a slightly smaller front sprocket on there to sort that... The Termis are LOUD... proper proper Ducati loud .. I've owned and liked loads of bikes over the years, i've been through squillions as you're aware... but i've never wanted a bike as much as a 1098... none, ever.. ever ever.
Haha good work! My 848 had a custom map, 14t sprocket and the Oberon clutch slave cylinder and it was a heap better to use! Still not easy but better! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nice bike, welcome, would it be yourself I remember from the ktm forum, spent a load of time on there
Yup, i've often owned both Ducatis and KTMs at the same time, often owned just one or the other too. I decided to quit road riding recently and at that stage was also track riding... So i sold the KTM690. We had a ZX6R for track but i didn't like it at all, so the track riding was also off the table. But now, having a 1098S, well, how can you not want to ride that on track. ! P.S thanks for the pics above
Your definately outdoing me in the 'I popped into Premier Bikes and bought this' stakes. Enjoy the new toy mate.
LOL i wish. Took it out for a test ride. We went for a quick test ride after getting it insured... It's pretty much as you'd expect, hard suspension, hard seat, low front end, loud beyond words, very quick throttle response, very tricky to get used to riding. Exactly as it should be, completely Ducati all round... It's very quick, very grunty, gear changes are super slick both up and down the box, just lovely really. Got back and whipped the side panel off to fit an Optimate cable, all looks fine there if a little dusty/mucky, but nothing you wouldn't expect to see on a 9 year old bike. It's just glorious... Mmmmmmmm. It did have some starting issues though maybe you lads can advise if there's a bit of a trick with them ? It would fire up, cut out, fire up, cut out... etc ... Eventually with a bit of throttle i caught it right.. But i'm wondering if there's something i need/should do generally when starting from cold. Once i'd been out, i came back and it fired up instantly without a touch of throttle, straight into a nice idle.
Nopes, nothing like that. Nothing in the manual but plenty of threads online that say they require a little smidgen of throttle on startup.. my old 848 liked a good smack of throttle like an old carb'd bike.... I'll experiment with this on Sunday as me and my 8 year old are off to Anfield tomorrow early doors to see the football.
Nice, should be plenty of goals V Black Cats. I expect Moyes will get a nice reception too ;-). Apparently the new stand is awesome. I've not been since I bought a Ducati 2 years ago and became permanently broke.
I've not been to Anfield for 3 years since Liverpool eat Dortmund pre-season with my lad. Only really go to away games down south now, but he's been pestering me to go to Anfield so i picked up the phone and called my uncle, so we're off in an hour or so, doing the touristy thing in the morning, Ferry etc, then footie, then home. Then tomorrow i start stripping and fettling the 1098.
