  1. Bike stops running every time goes into gear even with clutch in won't start what can I short to get running ? Engine running fine just stops as soon as in gear

  2. Side stand switch?

  3. Almost definitely going to be that.

Once every few years I completely forget and think I've broken down somewhere after stopping, only to realise I've still got the side stand down.

  4. It's side stand switch if I get it to a certain position it works and goes in gear how can I disconnect it completely ? Riders couldn't tell me

  5. If you can expose the wires you should be able to see three, one of the combinations will bypass the kill switch function.

Had to do this on a GSXR400 way back when to get myself home. I can't imagine the process has changed in all these years.

Would be safer to call out RAC or suchlike if you have breakdown cover.

Edit: by combinations I mean joining two together - goes without saying you'll need to replace it after doing this.

  6. Don't know Mutli but my other bikes you can just unplug it further up the cable. They also have a small 8 or 10mm bolt holding it in the back of the side stand. If you have that, unbolt it, move the switch to a working position and hook/cable tie it somewhere safe till you get home.

  8. Paper clip is your friend here.
Side stand switch is a problem on these bikes.

  9. Link your neutral switch wire to a permanent earth.

  10. Trace the switch wires up the loom, should find a 2 way connector, short it out (loom side) with paper clip.

  12. As already mentioned reach under the nearside of the frame (mid calf position if your foot was on the peg) and you'll find a three pin connector.

These LUCAS connectors can be an arse to undo, use a screwdriver to lift the retaining clip.

Open this and on the loom side (not the bit that goes to the side stand) short out Green to Yellow/Black. If I've got this wrong, then short out Green to Green/White. I can't actual get to my Mutleys as there is a washing machine and loads of other shit in the way!

    A Paperclip is ideal.
It's a centre position switch, that on three wires, fully lift up the lever and two wires are joined Normally open and common, fully put down the lever and the other wire Normally closed and common is connected.

There is no dedicated Neutral switch on the 1200 Multistrada.
Instead there is a variable length pin switch fitted at the back of the gearbox. It supplies a variable resistance to ground that the electronics interpret as the current gear selection or neutral. Costs around £100 and you need a special socket set to change it.
Although these can be problematic it normally leads to false neutral indications and wrong gear. This plays havoc with the fueling.

Let us all know when you are mobile again.
Don't forget the feedback icons....(I'm going to get Nuked again....!)

Please replace the switch ASAP....it's normally the solder joint to the mini circuit board at the switch that fails....yes...there's a circuit board! Water gets in.

    I love my Mutleys....On my 3rd and 4th )
