1200 Heated Grips

  1. Hi guys can the ducati heated grips be fitted at home or is there some setting up to do by the dealer to activate their operation via the start button and screen menus, looking at 2013 models
    Thanks in advance.

  2. Yes they have to be activated by a dealer @Filmoor but I would guess you could fit them yourself.

  3. Cheers broke,

Anyone had this done an Idea of dealer cost?

  4. You're looking at about £300 for a single spark model as the tank needs to come off. I don't think it does for the twin spark so should be quite at bit less. Grips themselves are just over £200 to buy

  5. I would call my dealer. If you can install the grips will they activate? My dealer charges min 1/2 hour labor. (If activation needs to be done I am not sure).

  6. I have factory fit heated grips on my Mutley, and to bee honest I really don't like them.
I would much rather have a decent pair of heated gloves.
With the heated grips, my palms get too hot, but my fingers and in particular my thumbs feel like they are going to snap off where they are so cold :-(

This is just my experience of heated grips. I definitely won't bother on my next bike!!

    Deaks :)

  7. Thanks guys some good information.

  8. Certainly a diy to fit. I got the dealer to activate mine when it was in for service-no extra cost whilst hooked up.

  9. +1 with Deaks on the heated gloves over heated grips, but the cables are a pita and the battery ones I was told, only last for around a couple of hours depending on how high the heat setting.
But Deaks can't have a DVT if his palms are getting to hot from the heated grips that's for sure ;)

  10. Tht's right I dont have a DVT, I have a 1200S touring skyhook of 2013 vintage :).

    Deaks

  11. I had mine fitted at the dealer on my Pikes Peak. My prevoius bike was a GS - for winter they are worth every cent spent!

  12. I would go against the heated gloves advice unless your only talking winter riding. If you tour, esp. alps etc then heated grips are great. Nowt like heading over a pass in the mountains with summer gloves/gear and being able to toast your hands on the heated grips when temperatures plummet. In that situation the heated gloves in the garage at home are not much use.

  13. Do the DVT ducati heated grips pack in after 24months like the old ones used to?

  14. Only had DVT one year so far work great.

  15. I've just had one of mine pack up after about 10 months, I use the bike daily so I've done a fair few miles, oddly they still work on the other side. Ducati hopefully will sort this out under warranty

  16. Got mine changed no problem. You would hope for more longevity though. As much as I liked my twinspark, its these little things (and the rock solid handling of the GSlc) that postpone my return to Ducati ownership.

  17. Likewise

  18. Agreed - yes they do tend to heat the "inside" of your hand, but, I would say better than nothing....but, balanced against the cost id say go for some oxford ones (what I use on all of my bikes) 100% will burn your hand or not far off and for 40 quid its worth a punt even just to try as a dry run for factory ones....contradicting myself a little the factory ones would be better as everything is integrated but as I say its a lot of dough...

Also it depends how hot they get...they only factory grips ive tried were on a bmw s1000r I test drove and in April the heated grips sucked the big one...they were totally hopeless.

  19. They work "ok" on my DVT, but their nowhere near as hot as my old 2013, and they weren't as hot as my mate's Goldwing or my other mate's GS.
