600 750 900 Inlet Tubes

  1. Evening all.

    There has been discussion on here before about the differences between the inlet tubes on 600, 750 and 900 carb fed engines.

    The situation is made worse by some breakers, particularly on ebay, purporting to be Ducati specialists who advertise inlet tubes as being suitable for all three engine sizes.

    Having built up a 900 engine from parts, and purchased a 600SS already dismantled to use as a donor to build a 900 bitsa special, I’ve ended up with a set of 600 inlet tubes and a set of confirmed 900 ones.

    I can confirm they are very different - See the images.

    At first glance they appear to be the same casting externally, but are different in length, and the angles are slightly different. But the most significant difference is that the bore at the head end is MUCH larger on the 900 ones.

  2. The exhausts are different too, despite what lazy, ignorant, tossers on eBay would have you believe when they advertise an exhaust for 600, 750 & 900ss

    .....but there is a helluva lot of difference between a 600 and a 900 - something like 300 at a rough guess...........

    ...so why would anyone with a modicum of knowledge think that inlet and exhaust ports would be the same size?
     
  5. It's because people are stupid.

    lots of parts on Ebay are advertised as fitting all three, so if anyone doing a google finds this thread and stops themselves being duped by a seller with no idea of what they are doing, or worse deliberately conned, I'll have done what I set out to.

    it works the other way too.
    At the moment I have a 600SS exhaust on ebay which I've specifically said is for the 600, yet I've had 3 messages asking me if it will fit a 900.
