Looking to add one of these to my bike...Not a huge fan of the smokey look, but they are a LOT brighter, which is a good thing Anyone have one? Any issues with MOT? I'm going to leave the side existing indicators on the bike along with this unit. Ta Ducati 748 916 996 998 LED Sequential Signal Tail Lights - YouTube
Yup, I have these. I didn't wire up the indicators and use the standard indicators. Mine has passed the last couple of MOT's with these fitted (which surprised me as my lights flash 3 times everytime the brake is applied) - Mind you he "overlooks" the "not for road use" termis so who knows
I'm not 100% sure but I think the flashing stoplight is "by the rules" not permissible. Also indicators need to be a set distance apart, I can't remember the distance but I had to fit extensions on the indicators with an R&G tail tidy on my 1098. These on there own would defo be an MOT fail. The clear tailight I have on the 1098 has a similar function and what I did was wire the indicator function through a superseal plug and brought the plug up into the tail section where the toolroll is. If I want to use the indicator function for extra attention I can just plug it in. If the MOT guy gets all hot bothered then I just disconnect it John
I thought the 'black look' was illegal as well (and before any lefty / human rights lawyer jumps on that, I'm talking about the rear facing lights on a motor vehicle) AL.
A lot of new cars have single colour rear lenses now, so I'm not concerned about the "black look". I've ordered one... Worse case I use the correct superseals and swap of come MOT time. Ta.
Remove the indicators for the MOT, they only have to work if they are fitted, just like the spare wheel on a car, if it aint there it can't fail.
Can't say it won't pass it all depends on how close your relationship is with the MOT tester. My tester is brilliant, uses common sense and does things in a very fair manner. If you go strictly by the rules though these things may earn you a fail. I just rechecked, the indicators position are not a part of the test so as long as they are on the correct side of the center line they are fine (I have read of others getting failed though for them not being the statutory distance apart). The rules are bit vague but it would appear that unless its an Off roader or can't exceed 30mph, indicators should be installed to all machines after 1986. I've also heard of people getting failed with no indicators because the switch is present on the switchgear. As for the flashing stop that is a definite fail by the rules too. Just saying worst case scenario. As it is it will probably be fine, I hope you don't have a problem all I was trying to point out what the rules are. I'll get ma coat
Don't know what the quality is like, but how cheap are these? Integrated LED TailLight Turn Signals Ducati 848 08-12 1098/1098R/1098S 07-12 C | eBay Integrated LED TailLight Turn Signals Ducati 848 08-12 1098/1098R/1098S 07-12 S | eBay Does other Ducati bikes as well
Appreciate yr help OJ. I also looked at the rules. Nothing on distance AFAICS. There is guidance for builders/manufactures though, think it's 185mm. I know all about the vagaries of MOT testers, having almost come to blows with one who was "noise testing" my bike by reving its nuts off, then balanced it on its side stand while his mate checked the front barring for play!
No bother Nelson I can't find the reference I had before. I found a VOSA manual for single vehicle approval it states 180mm. Scary thing in there as well I seen while browsing briefly was to get MSVA you also need 2 mirrors, never knew that was a requirement. Linkie http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MSVA%202010%20.pdf
Chavtastic light arrived today... Not bad, £20 delivered in a week from China... No wonder they're taking over the world economy! Didn't come with instructions, but wasn't too onerous to wire in, doesn't have the 3 flashy stop feature (which I was pleased about) LEDS are defo brighter..I'm going to wire in the indicators and just pull the common for the MOT...
Looks good I had the flashy brake rear unit on the blade, good quality but think the flashing rear brake light would of failed the MOT The 1098 has an integrated rear light unit with no separate indicators , no idea who makes it but looks good
Looking blingtastic Nelson Just a question was it 5 wires? 2 for the indicators 1 for the tail light 1 for the stop light 1 for the common Just guessing your best move would be to join the indicator wires onto a 2 way superseal where they parallel to your existing indicators. That way you pull the Superseal and the indicators stop working on the unit. If you pull the common I GUESS that neither stop or tail light would work either...............just a thought Jamie I got the clear tailight with the integrated indicator as I stated earlier, got it off my local dealer. Flea Bay have them. I like it but some have questioned the quality of item, just so as you are aware John
Yr right OJ, just doubled checked. I have 3 way Super Seal ready for the brake and stop. I'll get a two way for the flashers....
i just bought one of the sequential lights with integrated indies, they strobe across, hope to have it fitted soon, but am also worried about the MOT next year? Ducati 848 1098 1198 Sequential LED Tail Lights Clear Lens - YouTube
I have a similar light but without the 3-flash brake light, I bought it for it's brightness as the original was poor. I have retained the standard indicators aswell as the built-in LEDs but I asked the MOT tester re. the indicators, he told that the MOT does not specify any distance between indicators (even if the law may). Similarly (but slightly O/T) he also told me that there is no requirement in the MOT test for a number plate light even though there is a legal requirement to have one.
