After bombing back down the motorway the other week, I got complete confirmation that a naked bike is pretty much exactly that Lol. Has anyone seen / fitted a larger replacement screen on the 1200R (presume 1200 stripe would also be the same fitting) Don't want a full-on touring screen or anything daft, just something to help deflect a bit more air. Cheers
Puig do this - both black n clear. https://www.sdmoto-parts.com/en/acc...k-sport-windscreen-ducati-monster-1200-r.html I might pull the trigger on it, not for the double bubble but for the solid black in the hope it goes some way to fix the sun rendering the clocks useless.
Hi @Kempy - think I saw this during my search. Couldn't convince myself on the folded shape, but at least it would fit I guess. Same here re:black / tinted to help clocks
Yeah, I'd be interested on a slightly better wind deflector too - but the Puig one looks a bit like Batman's cape to me :Woot:, so not sure about that one
....as a 'workaround', I'm thinking of fitting some dark tint film to the inside of the OEM screen. I'm sure it will look ok, it'll help block out some of the sun so the dash might be easier to see, and is very easy to install/fit. Not sure if rain/washing might make it peal off, but its worth a punt as the whole thing will only cost a few ££'s
We're all coming to the same conclusion. It needs a small fairing. I'm adapting a nose faring from the old S4r. Mainly because it's a little lager than anything that's available for the present Monster and it looks a damn site better than Batmans cape or anything else I've seen. I'm also making a really neat compact Carbon fibre tail tidy if anyone's interested. I just couldn't deal with the thought of putting a clunky heavy bent steel bracket on the back my Monster. The Carbon ones I've seen looked too big to me.
Sam1199. I'd def be interested in seeing how the carbon tail tidy comes out. I emailed a few carbon manufacturers about the prospect and basically got told to jog on.
Yeah needs some front fairing to also help keep it clean! Bugger to clean this bike compared to a faired bike. I've tried two helmets, and noticed how different it is at speed between the two. For speed work a bit more armbend and duck down a bit more helped, but the RX7-GP performs way better from initial tests over my Shoei. The chin cover down on the helmet helped also. I could imagine a higher screen could make a big difference, tho I did test ride a S1000XR which caused no end of grief from buffering from the Higher screen.... the monster R standard screen does not cause this for me.
It's underway. Test version 1 done but too thin, not rigid enough. Version 2 is in the mold but I think it needs 1 more layer just to be sure to be sure it's strong enough. It'll fit right up underneath the rear light with indicator mounts. Quite frankly you won't see much of it. Matt finish to match Ducati carbon finish. I'm off on a trip this week so it won't get finished till I get back. It will get finished though and it will work.
Your helmet can make quite a difference. A lighter helmet will make it much easier for your neck muscles to keep your head still, making it feel like you are getting much less buffeting. Also the aerodynamics of the helmet play a part as well, although I suspect probably a lesser part. I changed from an Arai Quantum to a HJC RPHA ST and found I got much less effect from wind buffeting with the HJC, making distance riding much more pleasant and with higher speeds achievable.
I've done just that very thing to my 821 stripe. Used a dark smoke visor insert cut down to match the front screen, it works too. For the best fit, remove the screen and mark out first. Trim to fit and drill holes to have the four little screws hold the film in place. Stops the glare on the screen. It's the same visor film as used on the Bell visor too. One of the (many) reasons I got rid of my MV Agusta Rivale. Fun bike around town, terrible on spirited rides. Now it's gone and I'm on a Panigale.
I have couple of Arai lids and wind buffering is quite different. My RX7 tries to lift quite badly over 80, so much so I get serious neck ache after about ten minutes. I've also got a Tour X which I use minus the peak and this is much better as the front is longer and lower and seems to cut through the air better. Ped
