996 How Many 996sps Left ?

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Blink., Feb 3, 2017.

  1. ive got one.

  2. Um, when you look at the detail, the arithmetic doesn't add up. An increase in taxed bikes of 12 in 2016 but a corresponding decrease in sorned bikes of only 8. According to the data, there were 132 bikes either taxed or sorned in 2011 which rose to 145 in 2013, rose again to 149 in 2014 and 2015 and rose to 151 in 2016. Is there a 996sps breeding program that I don't know about ? Andy

  3. Imports? If you look at new registrations, they are still being registered for the 1st time now.

  4. 19 seems a lot to me to be explained by imports and the odd collector's bike being registered. But hey ho, if you need to know, you have to use what's available, dubious or not. Andy

  5. When I was looking to buy my bike, Ebay had three for sale that were imports from Japan.
The funny thing was the sellers wanted the same price as a UK bike.

  6. Rare bikes don't seem to have much difference if an import - especially now with the current exchange rate. I was looking at the USA as rare Ducati's were a bargain over there - now more than here in some instances and that's without import costs!

  7. I have one, number 11. UK Bike.

  8. I have one too, number 1676 -2000, one of only 8 sold new that year here in Sweden. I´ve been "working" on it for 9 years but now I´m forced to build back to stock to finance my other Project, a 996 RS which I call Bankruptcy edition due to the astronomical costs associated with it:rage:

Marvic extended mag swingarm, Febur "RS" ergal equalizer, Ohlins 46mm SBK forks FG 8760 (now on my RS, now Ohlins FG 8500 with original calipers), NCR Ti subframe, NCR Ti rearsets, NCR Ti rideheight adjuster, CM Composit CF bodywork, Ducati Performance Carbon fuel tank, narrowtrack mag triples 27mm offset (from a 955 Corsa)(now back to stock triples), lighter flywheel, CF headlight bucket, Marchesini mag wheels. 11. Its running 748R cams, 748R airbox and bored out shower injectors, 748R ECU (with CJS custom chip), bigger valves (but cant remember the sizes). Also has 998RS rods in it (runs 0.8mm squish......, crank has lost about 1.5 kilos, RS gearbox, RS alternator and lightened flywheel. I think I damaged the bottom end when the alternator rotor fell off and changed the timing bending some valves last time at Almeria (bit of a thing going there!!)
I normally rev it to 10500 but do hit the limiter on occasions, set at 10750.
Last time I dynoed it, it made 149.5 at 9500 at the wheel.
It was weighed some time back at 178 kg with a bit of petrol in it

  14. I've got one and I race it in the Hungarian championship. It's no garage queen by any stretch of the imagination.
