Insurance Affected For Hit And Run

  1. This evening as a pedestrian I was hit by car, nothing major but they drove away.

Just walking along and they simply went straight into the side of me - I assume they took a wrong turn and just simply turned around over the pavement and me over the bonnet.

See some police officers (real ones, not them other things) and they said to report it online to cover myself incase they may blame me for any damages if I was at fault.

Would this affect my insurance and would I have to report it with my car/bike insurance companies?

At the end of the day I'm fine and no details for either party as they drove away so as far as I can see I'm all fine and dandy.

  2. your not fine, you are suffering from delayed shock and have probably sustained injury's you are yet unaware of. I would insist that the police investigate. In theory, if you are not making a claim off your insurer, any insurance you have should not be affected ( tho the reality as I am soon to find out is probably quite different!) there is, I believe, a fund for those in your position so some compensation for your injurys may be obtainable.
im sure others can offer more solid advice.

  3. Were you clipped from the side & knocked over...or as I read went over the bonnet of a car? Sounds like you should be requesting local cctv footage for a possible drug-driver hit-n-run incident.

  4. As a pedestrian, I don't quite understand your concern about your motor insurance as in my world there is no connection. Currently you don't need a licence to walk on the pavement. I'm more concerned that without follow up by the police, the next time they hit a pedestrian, he or she may not be as lucky as you appear to be. Andy

  5. in the murky word of insurance who knows? For example, my ncb for my van does not carry over to my bikes as in their words , its a totally different policy, how ever any claim on my bike insurance will effect my van renewal price and ncb... C.unts.

  6. Thanks all - i spoke with a lawyer from work and it would be noted as a road traffic accident to police so would need reporting on insurance.

Im fine so really nothing so worry about; the chap driving just wasn't looking and while i don't condone him hitting me, he wasn't under the influence of anything and didn't posed a danger to anyone else in that respect.

Living in a village we have recently have been a target of thieves, losing two cars and motorbike in our small estate; all my post code.

Owning a Ducati and the no 1 stolen car in the UK i have already seen a huge premium increase this year of 50%!

Just always be alert as if you're on a bike!

  7. A road traffic accident?! You need to speak to another company's lawyers ;)

Agree with Andy. Would you tell them if you fell off your push bike? Utter nonsense (imho) that you have to tell your insurance company.

Unless hurt, id put it down to experience. :)
