Hi All, I hope you can help, Looking at purchasing a ducati monster 796, found one I really liked at a sensible price, but after speaking to the owner there is a fault. he advised its been great, but took it out the other week and noticed a rattle from the exhaust and low power. He has taken the back of the exhaust of and the diverter flap has jammed closed. If it is just the DV valve then I have no problem taking this out, fixing it or mapping it out, but I just wanted to bounce this of much clever people than my good self. if this was closed, or had come loose ect could it cause low power or is this something else. Kind Regards, Me
The valve in the exhaust pipework just before the end can is a problem across the Ducati range. Clearly removal, aka de cat, is a common solution but where kept, either an eliminator needs to be fitted which can be an electronic gizmo or a mechanical weight on the motor or failing that cleaning and lubrication at regular intervals. When the valve sticks part way closed or fully closed, there is a significant loss in performance and needs to be sorted. Andy
Thanks Andy, This is what I have been reading, this valve, does it divert the EG on a longer route, or does it literally close a flap and restrict flow.
Increases back pressure at 4600 rpm for noise and emissions, nothing else. Sort of an unsophisticated VW :Bag:. Andy
@Android853sp I just wanted to thank you. I went and bought the bike, Got it apart today with some help and noted that the flap had completely come loose from the actuating rod that goes though the exhaust system and had fallen back down, luckly its size prevented it going to far. I re-fitted the valve with new bolts and nuts and its not going anywhere now, until I get time to buy a new center section or get it cut open and removed. I love the bike
Pleased it has all worked out and that you are happy. Now you just need to get out there and enjoy it. Cheers, Andy
