How do the Police view the use of black visors on the road nowadays? When I used to use them they were tolerated and I never drew any undue attention from the Police even when I was being spoken to about going too fast, etc. I was wondering whether this attitude has now changed.
Rule of 3 still applies, small number plate, loud exhuast and dark visor will get you "noticed". On a sunny day if you don't have a dark visor nowadays, you'll be the odd one out. If I plan to be out late, I routinely carry a clear visor. Been caught out before and not pleasant having to ride with the visor up. Andy
I have been fined for a dark visor, but I did draw attention to myself so my bad. This was a bike police officer too. He did seem to be having a bad day, which pissed me off a little as the other guy I did not know just kept on going but I stopped. On previous occasions with car police not an issue.
Exactly my problem! Full race system, and smallish, but not ridiculously small plate. At the moment I get looks but no action.
Buy a tinted visor with the kite mark and fit a tinted fogcity /pin lock insert. Hey presto - kite marked dark visor
I ride with black visors. Carry a pair of safety glasses in case I get caught by lower light. If I know I'm out till dark I carry the clear visor.
If you've got reactive visor money..... Watch out going from Bright Sunshine to under trees and vice versa, similar problems to dark visor, but with an extra element of surprise.
Im guilty of rule 3 permanently. Loud 70mm, dark visor and smaller no plate. Never had any issues. I dont draw attention to myself by riding stupidly at inappropriate moments.
Get a helmet with an internal sun visor, in addition to the main visor, operated by a lever. In sunshine put the dark visor down; if light is dim put the dark visor up. Legal, easy to use, simple. Several helmet manufacturers make them nowadays.
I've got one but find it crap. The OEM internal visor wasn't dark enough to stop anything so had to replace it with a non kite marked one. Even then, the internal visor has no pinlock/anti-fog system so every breath you take (go on Phil) steams it up. I'll be switching back to a 'normal' lid and dark visor. I use the AGV helmet with internal sun visor and find it very easy to use and it works, it also has a pinlock on the main visor but i find that very poor as far as vision is concerned, I just spray the inside with anti fog and have never had a problem with misting up. Steve
Visor misting is a problem which mainly arises when it is raining, foggy, or wintery, when you are unlikely to need a dark visor anyway. In bright sunlight when you need a dark visor to reduce glare, misting is not often an issue.
I just carry a spare clear visor with me if I need it. Arai provide a nifty visor bag and I strap it round my waist to one side under my leathers. The curve of the visor sitting neatly to one side of my waist. Wouldnt even know it was there. If I am travelling, ie in Europe, I strap said bag to my tail pack. Friend had one of those AGV reactolite ones and he didnt rate it. It had issues.
Reactalite pin lock for me if I plan on stopping out after dark , only problem with them is that it doesn't go quite dark enough on very sunny days
