A quick question, I am about to replace the clutch plates on my S4 Challenge bike, it is fitted with a DP slipper clutch ( Alloy basket) and am unsure as to what plates are required as it is completely different to a standard pack. Any advice would be appreciated.
Don't know a lot about slipper clutches but have never heard of them using different plates. Lots of people use Newfren. Why have you decided to change them ?
The slipper clutch was added when GSE built the bikes for the monster challenge support series to BSB in 2002. The bike has now only done 3,100 miles, but 3K has been on the track and the plates are now lacking friction material, there is a suggestion that as it has an alloy basket I should use alloy clutch plates, hence the question, I was hoping one of the knowledgeable forum users might have some advice, no rush as it doesn't get used a lot. Can you advise on a Newfren stockist?
An alloy basket must have alloy plates, steel plates would quickly destroy it. Derek on here got 36000 miles out of a set of friction plates. They have very little material on them when new. Can't remember where I got my Newfren plates but it was via a thread on here, try doing a search.
Thanks for the advice, popped into Pro Twins today and picked a set of Ducati alloy plates and some advice into the bargain, can't see myself getting to that sort of mileage, taken 15 years to do 3k, but will certainly bear the newfren option in mind when my old Multi 1000S needs a refresh.
I have some Newfren, some Suzuki pattern and some whatever was in there in my clutch - works beautifully...
Thanks Guys, I think you have nailed it, if it works and feels right then that's the way to go. Will have a tinker at the weekend.
