748 in tank fuel pipes

  1. Please could anyone tell me what type of fuel filter pipes to use to replace the old ones in the tank, has mine have finally split. Do you have to buy original pipes or can pipe be purchased from a motor factors. Cheers Dogrose

  2. I just popped into my local motor spares place with the split pipe in hand, got about a metre of fuel pipe for a fiver. Exactly the same dimensions just cut it to length.

  3. but it's submersible type right?

  4. Just for reference the pipe in the that link is okay for the overflow pipes but not for the fuel pump.

The short lengths on the fuel pump should be braided pressure type. Just nip down you motor factors.

  5. Apart from it being pipe suitable for fuel, the most important factor here is that it's SUBMERSIBLE. The average Motor Factor around here does not stock this.

  6. Okay, technically it should be R10 spec hose (still available from motor factors). Although a lot (but not all) of hose seems to fuel resistant throughout these days. I know my brother in-law uses R6 hose in his boat fuel tanks with no issues.

  7. even designated 'submersible' hose can fail within 10 years so taking the low cost difference into account ,fitting anything that's inferior is a no-brainer surely..

  8. Thanks for the replies and info I'll get in touch with my local motor factors first, if they don't do pipe thats submersible I'll try
AFS as they should have some. The pipes on my 748 are the originals so they've done we'll to last this long. Cheers again

  9. You can get it from BMW cheap enough, as their bikes use it.

Failing that Wurth can supply it too.

  10. Yup my one was submersable type, and being that you have to change the fuel filter every 6k miles a low cost hose that takes two minutes to change is a no brainer for me. Even if it 'only' lasts 10 years.
