Pictures at the bottom guys. Took the girlfriend out on her ninja 300 for only the second time and she dropped it at a junction whilst stationary. Scuffed the mirror and rear set and clutch lever, not really a bother... but scratched the fairing up pretty bad. Anyway we get home and she's struggling to get it parked up in the garage so I stop my bike on the road leading up to the garage, as I do every time I ride the bike, but this time I'm trying to get to her before she drops it again and don't pay attention to the fact that the side stand is in the one bit of soft soil on the road and my bike falls over to the left as I walk away. Cracked clutch lever, scuffed mirror, scratched bar end, and a few scratches to the fairing. So I'm gonna get a set of levers. Having never repaired fairing scratches before am I right in thinking that a bit of touch up paint pen, paint cleaner, polish and wax? Thanks for reading.
Sorry to hear this, at least you are both OK Bad news, it you've scratched through The clear coat into the base coat (which it looks like), you're going to have to have them painted At least they are one colour and not graphics.
No harm in trying you may be satisfied with the result, but I doubt it will be great. If you are happy it will save a lot of dosh, also if your GF has just learnt she may well do it again, so she may be less nervous if you haven't just forked out a ton of money to have it fixed. Can't really see how bad the damage is on the Duc though.
Couple of spots where the paint is off - like deep stone chips. The other couple are light scratches and should polish off. Hence not wanting to fork out to get the whole panel resprayed. As for the girl's bike, it's not gonna be repaired until she is happy she's unlikely to drop it again.
At least the green isn't metallic (looks like solid colour with clear over) so easier to do temporary touch up for now.
Oh shit Don't be so mean get it repaired with the thought that it could most likely be dropped again They can be bloody heavy after a fair ride I used to park up sit on bike till whoever I was riding with got parked up and they would hold my SS while I got off as sometimes the ride itself had taken it out of me and the bike was heavy and I didn't want to drop her. I became more confident in time doing it myself Just saying like
Yeah for sure with the ninja. Mine was just a combination of not paying attention to where the side stand was and trying to rush over to her. The ground just slowly moved cause I'd walked away before it fell over slowly.
I can imagine So make a plan before hand you stop park up then tell her to stay put till you come over Only till confidence builds up it won't take long
I've heard of caring and sharing but doing that to the panigale just to make her feel better goes beyond the call of duty !!!! Seriously though I feel for you mate... don't beat yourself about it
How much should it cost to have the single panel resprayed? I've emailed a few local places for quotes...
Contact a company like Chips Away or similar. They will be able to do a SMART (Small to Medium Repair Technique) on the smaller scratches, without spraying the whole panel. They are also a mobile service and will come to your house or office to do it. I had them to a car for me that had far worse damage and inside two hours you couldn't tell. Came with a two year guarantee and cost me about £120 I I remember right. Paint shops will also be able to do the same, although many will want to do the whole panel just because may not be confident in getting an absolutely perfect colour match, and to be honest on a bike it's easier to remove the panel and spray the whole thing anyway.
bastard squad. Had my 748 fall over in my workshop a week after getting it home after a 2 year rebuild. It sucks arse but nothing that can't be fixed. I would say around 150-200 to do the panel
Any decent paint supplier will be able to mix you a quantity of paint for stone chips etc, check your local area, there are loads about. Off the top of my head, your Panigale red is Ducati Anniversary Red 473.101 (PPG). Minimum quantity is usually about 250ml at about £15. They can also put it in an aerosol for you, so that it'll keep better than in a tin, when you want to touch in and paint a chip, spray a bit out of the can onto some cardboard etc and touch it in from there with a very fine tipped impliment (not a brush). Your panel is past the stone chip stage, but each to their own. I have no idea about your Kawasaki colour code, but it should be in your manual or on a sticker on the bike (although it's alaso a bit past the stone chip stage). Failing that, these guys may help.
