Whilst trying to install the Evotech engine guard, I managed to shear the bolt on the exhaust header. Is there a way to fix this? Is it attached to the sump or can it be removed and replaced with a bit of handy bolt removal?
You're very lucky that it hasn't snapped flush with the head. Remove the manifold, use plenty of releasing oil on the stud and use some grips to remove it.A better method is to get 2 nuts on it (put 2 nuts on the stud and wind the bottom nut back out against the top nut, the stud will loosen as the bottom nut has nowhere to go. Again, because it's an exhaust stud, use releasing oil) There are other various tricks such as bolt extractors or welding a nut onto the stud.
Remove downpipe, molegrip the stud out and replace. There's Not enough room for the 2 nut removal method.
Thanks for the suggestion. The weird thing is I was trying to remove the upper one. The one you can see. It was just turning endlessly. So not sure how I'm going to remove the headers.
If it's just turning. It may already be snapped. The headers have to come off anyway, so start stripping it down and see if it pulls off.
Ok so I'll try the other bolt 3/3 and see if I can screw it up as much as the other 2. Don't you just love those bank holiday weekend f**k ups! If and when I get the headers off would need any sealing or parts to get it back to a secure state. In addition to the new bolts and nuts I'll be purchasing.
Not good news. It's also not good news that the stud snapped while getting it off. That means it's really solidly in there, so yes, lots of release agent and give it time to soak in
