Diavel What Is The Allen Key Size, Splash Gaurd To Swing Arm?

  1. Hi,

I'm in the final stages of relocating the number plate on my Gen II Diavel.

I need to remove the splash guard / number plate hanger from the swing arm. I know that they are allen bolts, but, I don't know what size allen key they are?

With the wheel still on the bike, the gap is too small to get a standard allen key in to the bracket and in to the allen bolt. So impossible to try different sizes, to find the correct one.

As I need to cut an allen key down to fit in the space between the wheel and the bracket, I'd like to know what size the key is, so that I only have to cut one down. This will save me starting at 6mm and working my way up, cutting each key down until I find the right size.

  2. Be a bonus if you could get a set of hex keys to fit a ratchet, You may need them for later, also if your taking out the Allen bolts , plug the hole with either the bolt or some form of sealent to stop water ingress

  5. Thanks Nelly. I'll be modifying my 6mm Allen key later.

  6. I'd be surprised if you can get them out with a modified allen key.
As suggested get a hex set that fits your 1/4 or 1/2 inch socket set.
If I remember correctly those suckers are in tight and with Loctite.

  7. Hi, once Nelly confirmed the key size, 6mm, I found a 6mm hex head socket in my 1/4" set.

The problem is that access to the bolt head is down a tube that is about 45 mm deep and not much larger in diameter than the cap head bolt. The socket part of the hex head drive is too big to go down the tube.

Removal of the bolts would be easy without the back wheel in place. A normal allen key would easily fit.

But, leaving the back wheel in place makes the job a little more complicated. Took about 20mm of my standard 6mm allen key, and all is good.

Rear bracket and splash guard now removed. Just waiting for the small plate to turn up.

Thanks for all the advice and details, that's what makes this a great forum :upyeah:
