749 Oil Leak ( Clutch )

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Spjallen, Jun 25, 2017.

  1. Evening gents

Whilst racing this weekend, I noticed an odd oil leak from the top left of the clutch case. Black and it really stank.

Obviously an oil leak, but from a dry clutch? I've wipped off the clutch and basket to find

    1. Inside of the cover thick with oil. Maybe 2mm
    2. Rear of the basket is clean, inside and outer edges slight oil covering.
    3. Behind the pressure plate is only very slightly dirty
    4. Springs very slightly oily.
    5. Plates ( friction ) dark.

It must be an oil seal, any experience with this problem and possible causes and remedies would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Simon

  2. Oil seal. They do go. Soz.

Edit: Happened to my 916. I replaced oil seal myself. Cant remember whether I had to take side casing off or not or whether I did it in place.

Edit 2: I think it just pops out once you remove clutch inner and outer. But someone else will confirm.

  3. There is an oil seal on the crank gear and an o ring inside the spacer behind the clutch, also an o ring on the push rod.

  4. I think the case has to come off to push it out.

  5. Cheers for the replies guys. Taken the casing off to get access to the seal. Seems a simple enough job just time and money consuming!
