Warning Tyre Malfunction

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Peter turner, Jun 25, 2017.

  1. Desert Sled 496 miles on the clock on its run in before a service..front tyre seal went expelling air through the spokes at a great rate front handlebars stuck couldn't move themy skidded to a stop. Lucky just come off a motor way onto a slip road. AA recovery as the scrambler number took me to a Europe centre? When air was put into the valve the whole tyre through the spokes gushed air. Ringing dealer tomorrow not happy and weary of the bike now. They will have to pick it up from my home.

  2. And welcome.

I know it's serious but you've just got a faulty wheel. I have spoked wheels on my Classic and so far, 27 months and 6000 miles later they've been fine.

No need to be weary about the bike.

  3. Don't spokeys have that rubber sealing strip on the inside? That's obviously just faulty. Simple repair.

  4. Had that on my trails bikes a few times, it happens with spoked wheels. The seal inside the spokes must have failed or got damaged. Those bikes look nice mind :)

  5. Welcome wobbly dude

  6. Welcome Mr. TURNER Overdrive..... or shall we call you Mr. leaky?

  7. The seal must of failed it turned violently to the left and stearing locked had I of been on the motorway I wouldn't be posting this it would of been an accident I may not of survived. Not funny guys and the bikes brand new..496 miles new this shouldn't happen!!!

  8. Not a tyre problem, sounds like you have a punture or a faulty inner tube.

  9. I certainly agree about the 'not funny' bit particularly as you've only just joined the Forum, glad you made it through. Your reaction is understandable but hope you come to realise that this is a very rare and freak occurrence. Considering what happened I hope you get a fresh wheel just to put your mind at rest.

  10. Do they have inner tubes on these? I thought it would be a tubeless wheel??

  11. Personally I'd be finding out if it's ok to use inner tubes , I've had 2 front flats now . The first was on the CRM doing around the speed limit . . cough , cough . . . , every time i shut off the gas the bars would wobble but if i gave it a bit of gas it'd be fine , i slowed the bike down using this method and it wasn't until i got down to 30 mph that things got lively so i slowed it on the back brake and rode up the curb on to the grass , I'd picked up a puncture . The second time was years later around the same area on the R1 , the valve split , to be fair it didn't seem as scary as the first time .
I presume that you were doing around 30ish or below which would account for the harsh whip of the steering on to full lock , usually at speed centrifugal force keeps the tyre just about manageable not that I've tried this on a bend in fact i hope not to try it again at all !

Most definitely a brown trousers moment , glad your ok

  12. No puncture as AA guy went over it with a fine tooth combe. Then the air he put in came out the spokes. It's tubeless and the seal must of gone the bikes not even done 500 miles I'm fuming.

  13. Are you sure they are tubeless? The Classic has tubes I'm sure.

  14. Tubeless it's must be the seal round the actual tyre bloody bad considering its brand new and sill not been run in!!
its a Desert Sled El Toro ♉️

  15. I agree but after less than 500 miles...really? Not like it's second hand or been used and abused

  16. The Classic has spokes too, that's why I asked

  17. Hi I was saying the bike cornered well but to be honest will be wary of it now

  18. They are tubeless they pick it up tomorrow then I'll find out the shop seems shocked and keep saying puncture or did you run over something... I keep saying the air is coming out of the spokes they just don't get it.

  19. Mr brown pants will do
