1200 DVT Right Hand Clutch Cover Rubbing Using Back Brake

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by SteveE, Jun 29, 2017.

  1. I've had a new Pikes Peak DVT for about 4 weeks now and done about 1500 miles. Loving everything about the bike except I've noticed that because I have to 'toe in' to work the rear break, my boot has slightly rubbed the clutch cover. I thought about a replacement and the part costs £480 plus, with no gasket, the fitting is a few hundred quid on top of that!! It's that light a mark after polishing that I'll stick with it and have ordered an R&G cover for the clutch cover, if you see what I mean. Anyone else had this problem with the toe-in for the brake resulting in rubbing of the clutch cover?

The back brake, as many know needs quite a bit of effort to apply effectively (although it's a million times better than back brake on the 2012 MTS I used to have), so I just wondered if this (combined with the inset alignment of the brake which requires a 'toe-in' apply it) is causing rubbing of the cover for anyone else.

  2. I used 3m 8671 HS Clear tape cut to shape and stuck onto the clutch cover, 2 years on and it is still there and still protecting the cover from my boots.
Much cheaper than a new or aftermarket cover and it can hardly be seen.

  3. Yes have same problem with my 2015 1200s can't seam to find touch up.

  4. Thanks. How do you stop the glue on the tape melting and the tape looking dirty and / or moving? I put a carbon frame protector pad on which looked brilliant but when the engine heated up it moved about, left a black smear and dropped off after about 3 hours of riding. I've ordered this through my dealer... https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/rg-racing-clutch-cover-ducati-multistrada-2015-2016

  5. 3M 8671 protective Tape doesn't melt and doesn't move about and can be removed and replaced with no problems if it gets dirty.

  6. Can you post an image for us too have a gander at?

  7. Will have to be at the weekend
Currently it is having its 18K service so at the dealers.

  8. I use that tape on the front of the forks below the bottom triple. Stops stone chips.

  9. What's a back brake? :confounded:

  10. Thanks :)

  11. The bike is back from its 18K (almost 19K) service and I am minus an arm and a leg!

This is the shape and position of the 3m Tape and it does look like it needs replacing after over 2 years and some 19K miles but it does still do the job of protecting the Clutch cover from any boot marks.

I have the same 3m tape on the exhaust cover (my heal rubs that) and on the front forks and on the Touratech Belly pan as well.

  12. You mean because they're not good on the MTS or riding style?

  13. Not good, typical Ducati rear brake and I never use the rear anyhow
