Mk1 Superlight Detailed restoration the saga Begins :-)

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by sim900sl, Sep 10, 2012.

  1. I got one from Harry this year, cant say when as all receipts have been shredded on the current project... If you get stuck then I must still have the one that I was going to get plated but just got the new one instead.

  2. Well heres a pic of where the frame / front end is up to, just busy sorting out the wiring for the new regulator rectifier and many other tidying up things , Not looking bad for a 20 year old though ! _DSC1327.jpg _DSC1325.jpg

  3. My OCD is not coping with you only having one handlebar grip.

Pu the other one on please! Your asymmetry is giving me the jibbles.

    (Tidy bike tho)

  4. Dont worry I have a cunning plan  slip the other one on with a touch of glue LOL and at the same time put the steering stem nut on , bleed the brakes , tighten them bolty things up etc etc , all in good time.

Jibbles must be a Wilts thing ? certainly not Glos/Worcs

    Busy tidying the wiring

  5. Except its a mk3 no 605 nice but not a mk1

  6. Erk! Just read details - yes Mark III - not No 111. False alarm, then

  7. Total admiration for what you're doing and can't wait to see the finished result. What happened to the original MK1 wheels, personally I prefer the look of the Brembo's. I was in Moto Rapido last month and they have a MK1 on display....

  8. I'm afraid the original wheels must have bit the dust in a previous life ! The brembos are fine for what I'm doing , I have seen the MK1 in Moto rapido. The Bremos are of the right vintage.

  9. I don't know why the old style ones are so desirable, agree with you, the Brembo's look fine even better .....

  10. I think the original Marvic polished split rim wheels looked lovely, like hens teeth these days though! The Mk1 doesn't look right without them.

  11. Well my MK1 has different pipes etc , so no chance of restoring it to standard, I think my money has been better spent on other goodies rather than wheels, its not as if its going to get raced so wont really improve handling etc.

  12. As above. They are out there, I found a pair in Holland for my Baines Imola. The MkI needs them, it's a major part of what makes the bike!

  13. I think for the prices they go for £1k pair ? they can stay out there !

  14. I think I paid 750 Euros plus shipping, and got my money back when I sold them. They are an investment and I would bet they would add that value to the bike!

  15. Well if some were around for 750 euros I def would buy , but £1k + no chance

  16. Just read through the thread Simon, thought I'd better join the forum so I could comment.
Great job so far looking forward to more updates.
Am an owner of a MK IV myself, great bikes these things  !
