Just wondering if anyone knows of any half decent roller starters that's not up at the £600-£900 mark, Wont be used all that often(2 or 3 times a week), Had a google and look on ebay but they aint cheap, Its for my dad so he can get out on the old Norton 500 single when I'm not around, The poor bugger damaged a ligament trying to start it and has left it 2-1/2 month and tried to start it again and his legs black and blue again, We don't want to part with the bike and this would be a great option, Also could take it to shows etc, Hes 72 coming 73 and its the last thing he needs, Any advice would be appreciated, Don't want one in kit form that's missing motors etc and going to take a while to get. If I need to spend £600 ide rather that than see him crippled. Cheers Jack
Is this really a viable solution? Even if it works a treat, doesn't it leave him open to getting stranded somewhere because the motor stalled or he had to get fuel or stopped by the cops etc etc.
Weve thought about all that and tbh he doesn't go far and were in a very small town WAY up north and I'm never far away, Its basically to get him out a run even if it means planning things a little, Little chance of getting pulled by cops etc up here, my only worry would be if he was out a run while I'm at work and he stalled, Just be a matter of phoning my mam to get her out with the starter lol, Ive offered to put a little ££ with the Norton and get a thruxton r but hes not having it, Cant understand why lol, I can see totally where your coming from but up here its not to much of a problem, Topping up the fuel is done at home and the tank is more than enough. cheers
The starter I mentioned is made by a company called Solo.Cost was around £800 when my friend bought it a few years ago.
Enfield electric start model would keep him on 2 wheels with less chance of getting stranded and leave the 500 for his main hobby. There was a chap selling plans but I pressume it would not happen quick enough ? This is the you tube vid and then then similar plans advert http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTORCYCL...860947?hash=item25db3ae8d3:g:bUAAAMXQlgtS2LG9
yep seen that, Hes no interest in the Enfields, Think hed rather take the chance of getting stranded lol, Will let him decide over the weeknd what to do regarding the starter, Doesn't look like theres a cheap version that can be bought, Been looking on net for last hour, to be honest 90% of the time I will be out with him so we will sort something, Hes all the time in the world and half is out in garage, Hes got it running sweet (bought as a none runner) and he just wishes he could go out and start it when he wants, I'm not keen on letting him loose on the streetfighter for some weird reason lol
Ohh well weve had a good hard long think about this and made a decision, Rollers aren't going to be the way we want to go, comments on that were appreciated, Weve opted to buy another bike, Weve went for another Ducati or should I say Harley lol, Put a deposit down on this bike this morning, If I'm honest I'm pretty excited myself, Dads always wanted one and why not. Comments good or bad First thing the ape bars are heading for bin
Most old folk when they have a gammy leg, get a zimmer frame, you bought him a harley. Don't you like him no more? To be fair, if it keeps the old fella on two wheels and happy, why not
Haha, Hes the happiest ive seen him in a while, Hope I have something like that when I'm 72 just listed the offending bike on ebay, doesn't sell I'm going to keep it and maybe use it now and again
