I got an impact socket from halfords for about £16, took off the rounded face with an angle grinder so its nice n flush against the wheel. As the nut itself is only a 1/2 nut, it does not keep the socket from falling off without some assistance.
the size of my socket is 48mm i think its a chrome moloy constuction i do not think you will get a star one from halfords but worth a try i spose
OK so this is an old thread, but I have one to part with:- JHP Ducati wheel axle socket for front and back axle nuts | eBay Should've said I have some Gerbing heated clothing on there as well, brand new, not worn apart from trying on. I'll be keeping my heated gloves though!
I was thinking the same about my 848. Believe the hyper and 848 both have the same nut, which is different to the 1098/1198. mat
ive got a couple of sockets that fit the 998, 848, hyper, series rear wheel nut and sprocket carrier nut that are buckshee to me..............they are both 12 point and 3/4 drive so i use a 3/4 to 1/2 reducer if anyone is interested
Get a normal 12 point steel socket from an autofactors or tooled up . com. I think the back of my 1198 is a 55mm or could be 57mm. It is 3/4" drive so you will need an adaptor from 3/4 to 1/2". I wouldnt trust an ally socket and most of the manufacturers say that it is only for tightening the socket not for undoing. There not expensive.
Something along these lines is probably what you need Draper 55mm 3/4" Square Drive Expert Bi Hexagon Socket : Tooled-Up.com
Ideally you don't want yr end chamfered... You'll get better purchase on that short arsed nut without it...
