Well - his hand twisted right round the throttle and his pipe spitting in my face on every QS told me he was.... While i totally accept that anything past that mine tends to crawl round (ive done 155 with a bit left) mine does has a QS and a very short ratio gearbox. Plus, i quote when Chris at CJS had it on the dyno he said " i dunno why they did it but they stopped the primary injectors in 1st second and third cutting in til 7k. They cut in a 3k in 4th 5th and 6th so ive copied the mapping from the last 3 gear into the first 3..." "So, what do you think then....?" "Youre going to be hanging on to it in the lower gears from now on if you open it up..." TBH id love to do it again as i dont think it was a fluke....the last out and out was against an older tuono (v twin gen) and i got past him relatively easily...id probably say right now mines a bit flat as ive switched the exhaust set up around - i called Chris to let him know what ive done and he said "fuel shape will have changed massively - we'll get it back on, see what happens...."
A motox bike accelerate at a massive rate. It still won't be even close to a R1M at a 100 mph. Probably not 60. Not a dig in any way, it just amazes me that people who ride non true sports bikes believe their all purpose bike is anything like as quick as one when both ridden with the same gusto. I can be guilty as anyone else, until that day when you are flat out and a panigale comes last and leaves you like you're on a cb500
My mates gen 2 v4 doesn't get left behind by panigales on a straight up to the point where wind plays a factor. He loses a couple f bikes but not much. That's 170 hp with traction, anti wheelie and even launch control. It leaves my 130 hp gixer for dead, and my genuine 170rwhp gixer couldn't reel it in. You must have the fastest Kawasaki built this side of a ZX10R
Ironically i did have a pop against a zx10r against the hyper on the way home from work last month and while i could reel him in, on the roundabouts he would instantly leave me on the straights.... With regards to the zed....ill have to report back when i have a go at something else....it really is something else...all i can say is what ive done....its an underated bike....very much so - again ill probably get shot down in flames but id hazzard its under 200 kilos in weight also - i weighed the stock tailpipes at 4kg each and id say the headers were about 6kg with the cat. The marchesini's are a fair bit lighter also...plus all the stock stuff thats come off as well... I had thought about doing a you tube video of it going through the gears once its wound up (i get probably 1 second maybe 2 before i have to change) as it goes through the box so fast but id probably end up in prison for doing that....i can only think its the way that it delivers its output as ive got an custom mapped rsv4 factory with a full akra evo 2 system and even that doesnt feel as violent in the lower gears...
Agreed. There isn't anyway it can make up for the weight difference, even if you could squeeze over 200bhp out of it to even attempt to level the playing field.
Your more than welcome....! i did say when we met back in april....id love someone to tell me either it really surprised them or im talking a load of shit.... In fact in stark contrast i always read how people say stuff about supermoto's "its an animal, or, totally uncontrollable" - i wouldnt say my 525 is...it feels light cos it is but thats about it...! I'm absolutely not saying its a sportsbike beater or anything like that...i was kinda comparing it to a multi in that its a kind of a jack of all trades type of bike but one thats overlooked cos its not that popular, and to a certain extent got pretty well slated by the mags when it came out......
Sorry Bradders, forgot to reply to this. I'm on my 2nd MT-10. First one did 5.5K miles in 3 months and I got it to help spread the miles between it, my R35 GT-R and my DVT, when I was working for Mercedes F1 in Brackley and commuting from Watford every day. When the MT-10SP came out I had an option of taking up the offer of a very generous trade-in because the dealer had an outstanding customer list for non-SP bikes and new MT-10 weren't due to start landing in the UK until late-May/early-June. So, one Akro pipe deal-sweetener later and I did a swap, particularly as I'm now working back in the city and I'm not doing the stupid mileage any more. What can I say, other than it runs rings around the DVT despite the rear-wheel hp being pretty similar. The engine is the work of a genius and the electronic ohlins suspension is very effective. It is a naked R1 but with a much more useable engine and riding position. The only limitation is the tiny fuel tank, but it's another bike which can otherwise do everything but at the same time is a great contrast to the DVT too. I love it although I haven't had much time to ride outside of my daily commute and since picking up my MT-10SP in April I've only managed about 1300 miles on it so far. I'm planning some track days with the SP in due course. The handling is absolutely wicked sharp and it just begs to be thrown into the next corner harder and harder.
Sounds great, and I'd love to test ride a crossplane machine. If only it didn't look like the love child of a transformer and Wall-E,..
Short geared...ill give you that...havent had any ground clearance problems....1/4 inch away from the edge on a 190/55 and the last 200 I had on there propped it up more...
Interesting comment from an American MCN type review that the latest Z1000 has wide casings that, on track, may well limit clearance.
