hi all anyone know what actually breaks down on the heated grips I know it a common problem but wondered if fixable
The heated element itself breaks down, usually with a small portion burning out. Some enterprising owners have managed to bridge the break by soldering or simply replaced the heating element with an alternative.
After just over 5 years the throttle heated grip on my 1200s went open circuit which meant both stopped working. If you search on here, a number of people have refitted/repaired the failed grip. I refitted genuine Ducati replacements this week and whilst doable at home it involves removing the fairings and petrol tank to get at the connectors. I would have chopped the wires near the handle bar and scarfed the new grips in but the throttle side has 2 red wires. Andy
Ok thanks I just had all tank and fairings off doing maintenance so that not a issue so might pull apart again and have route round try repair
Had ghe heated grips replaced when stopped working free of charge and bike was several months past warranty peeiod.
