Engine Oil

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Thelord, Aug 18, 2017.

  1. What will be best for my Testastretta, synthetic or semi synthetic engine oil?
Does anyone know what Ducati recommend?

  2. I use 15/50 fully synthetic in my 1198 and 996, never had a problem.

  3. Oh no . . . Which oil? . . . Not again .

Has nobody ever thought of using the search function on this noble forum? Type in 'which oil' and spend the next six months reading the replies . . . Then go and make your own mind up;)

  4. If only we still had tax discs. I miss those "where shall I put my tax disk on my <enter-bike-model-here>?" posts!

  5. Samurai, I just did as suggested and the search function is entirely useless, perhaps that is why. Try it yourself and see what you get

For the OP use fully synthetic as suggested by Ducati, you can get a forum discount at Opie Oils https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/forums/opie-oils.65/

  7. A lot of us use Motul 300v, I use a 15w/50 blend. I'm sure there are others just as good, certainly for for road use.

  10. I tried that and it produced nothing. Maybe I am using the search function wrong but I did click the boxes for the search to look in all forums aswell as this one.

  13. Ok, fair point, but try putting in 'fully synth oil' and you'll get about six pages worth! There are probably loads more if you can be bothered to change the search criteria a bit.

I must admit that the old website seemed to have a better search function. This one seems over complicated, but just use a couple of variations on the key words an you'll come up with most common stuff like this subject.

At least we don't have any tax disc questions anymore! Maybe stuff like this ought to be placed in a FAQ or 'Sticky' threads like other forums?

  14. Absolutely agree, a small technical section with manuals, torque settings, alternative parts would be useful for reference

  15. Best way to search on this forum is use Google and type Ducati forum at the end of the search string.

  16. Could you please show us evidence of the oil related failures that you know about relating to Fuchs oil? Without this information your preferences are quite worthless advice.

  17. If the engine is ran in, yep fully synth'

  18. @Mr.R fair point mate, I'm just going on my personal uses of the oil i have used in the past, I belive that it's the frequency you change the oil rather than shelling out mega bucks on any one brand . Again only going on my experience, I think oil is one of those subjects that could rage for eternity bit like favourite tyres :D
