Yeah, i know....y'see - i could have lied but i thought honesty was the best policy - but - theyre not really a sport tyre and if you gas it out of a bend it does start to give out a little.....a bit un-nerving....
I had a go on an Mt10 thing a while ago. It messed with me head to much. After 20 solid years of V2 I can't compute anything else any more. I couldn't wait to get off it but me mate wouldn't get off my Mutley.
Tell a lie, I had a v4 Tuono for a few weeks, bored me shitless after the initial ooooo this is alright fortnight.
It's down to geometry: with the same tyres on my ST4s and Multistrada (180/190 respectively), I've got ragged edges on the ST and about 1/4" chicken strips on the Multistrada. I'm cornering at the same pace/lean angles on both machines.
Same tyres = same profile, save for the difference twixt 180/190 and rim width. I think that, in this case, machine geometry (wheelbase, rake, trail, pivot positions etc) have more impact.
No, they are not. Not all 190/55 or whatever are equal. Edge of a scorpion can be done with less than 10 miles on the clock, no problem, edge of a PR4 takes a hell of a lot more effort.
Absolutely - sorry, when I wrote 'same tyres' I meant same make & model, not just size. PR4s in both cases, and yes, v hard to dechicken, whereas the rounder profile of SC1s on my 749R means I can have them to the edge as soon as they're scrubbed in.
I was in my dealer at the weekend, booking in for the DVT throttle and luggage recalls, plus got a small bit of warranty covered corrosion on an engine casing which is getting replaced. Whilst in there I went and had a nose around the showroom and enquired about trading my 14,000 mile DVT in for a another in a few months time when it's out of warranty, or perhaps try the Supersport, and get into a bit of a chat with the sales guy. He told me if I wanted another white one then they had one in stock and it was the last DVT they would have this year. They have an order in for a red one but have been told by Ducati that they will not be getting one and won't be able to fulfil any new DVT orders once their single white DVT has gone, because that's it for this year. He then went on to tell me that their factory contact had, in a roundabout kind of way, implied that there was a new model coming and likely to be released at EICMA in November. It's all speculation but when dealers are of the same opinion it's a pretty good indicator. One thing to ponder would be that with other makes now taking sales out of the Multistrada (BMW S1000XR is claimed to be BMW's 3rd biggest selling bike) and given that the Mulistrada is one of Ducati's top selling models, they can't be resting on their laurels and letting the model go unchanged for another year. Especially since the spec sheets are now showing lower power figures, etc, they've got to keep on top of that if they still want to own the segment that they created. I recon there's a really good chance that we'll see this in showrooms in the new year, so I'm going to wait it out before changing and if it turns out to be the case then this is at least one sale that BMW won't get .... provided it has 17" wheels and it's not a fecking enduro variant.
There's no doubt about the new models, as the CARB filings are statutory. So, we know that there will be (at least): Multistrada 1260, 1260S and Pike's Peak, for which output will likely be over 170bhp. Panigale 959 Corse. Monster 1200 T and 1200S T, which have me intrigued as I'm guessing the T stands for Touring.
I wish they'd stop messing around and release a proper super naked based on the panigale lumps. It's something I'd buy, and I'm sure many others would too
An ST4s replacement with the 1299 engine and semi-active Öhlins would have me instantly in granny-hocking mode, had I but a granny left…
I would have thought then Rainman, now is the time to sell yours before the new model comes out, or am I wrong ?
