Tips For Knowing If Front End Bent

  1. As mentioned above, I would take it all apart Bradders as it doesn't take long. For the Ducatis the lower steering yoke stem is a very common thing to get damaged in a crash but I've no idea with the GSXR. If you just remove the forks completely since you have to anyhow to get them to Paul then you can eyeball them for straightness or lack of. The same applies to the yoke stem. For me both were easy enough to spot.

Also common is the front axle so take a good look at that as it will knock everything else out of line as well.

  2. I've used plumb lines at equal points on either side of the forks, frame etc and then measured the distance between the end of the plumb line and the same point on either side of the bike.

I discovered a bent frame, headstock and yoke through that - even though the wheels aligned and a steel rule didn't show bent forks.

    This was on a 1975 T160, though.

New bottom yoke and trip on a motoliner jig.

  3. well forks out, rolled across my ali table and seem ok. They slid in and out OK too. No signs anywhere on the headstock, and axle came in/out easy enough. Thinking maybe a bar is slightly bent or it was twisted and removing & refitting released tension. @cookster had a look and was undecided by eye too.

Anyway, forks and shock off, will be dropping to @PGP to do the business on Saturday (and he'll confirm if ok or not).

Another worry now: clocks don't fire up even tho ignition working OK and starter spinning. Damn!

  4. Now have to find a way to remove the bottom yoke when I have a headstock stand and have used by axle stands on the pegs so i could remove the rear shock.

  5. I think I'd just get it confirmed straight by specialist before spending any money - get it in a jig

  6. Too late LOL

  7. @bradders if you wana bring the bike over to me mate we can use the engine crane to support the bike and strip what's needed.

  10. Trouble is, I've started looking at HM and Aim dashes, as if I'm paying £200+ for a shitty std one I may as well upgrade ;)
