I fitted an MRA screen with the adjustable bit and took the Big Black Beast for a run today. Went up the A68 across the border towards Hawick then down the little roads home again via Newcastleton, where I pulled in for coffee time. The MRA screen almost removes the buffeting that I got with the standard screen on Aztec spacers, but made it really clear that there's a blast coming off the front beak under the side edges of the screen which hits me in the upper chest then up under my helmet rim, with concomitant noise. Perhaps I'll look at the little flaps as a DIY project a la Ducati Multistrada 1200 - MTS1200.info redirect unfortunately, when I pulled in for coffee, I found oil on the lower offside fork leg-looks like a blown fork seal. It'll be back to M&S Newcastle as I've only had it since March and haven't been out much due to weather. I'd noticed that there seemed to be a rattling from the front through the bars in the miles before I stopped-hope this was symptomatic of the fork seal? I find the Multi a great bike, after my Fireblade. It covers the ground at least as quickly and I enjoy the ride more. Next is a pair of Fat Ducs to try to remedy the low speed (sub 3.5 K rpm) running and the new Ohlins SCU to make it nearly a Skyhook bike ( without the better screen, low-speed fuelling etc ) Here's hoping the weather gets back to this when the fork leak is fixed.
Update: FatDucs coming off - I can't feel any difference. MRA screen better than standard one in that it doesn't produce the side-to-side battering, and I can turn my head without it being blown about, but this only reinforces the diagnosis that there're two streams of air coming off the front fairing and sneaking under/around the base of the screen, hitting me in the chest and running up into my helmet. Best thing yet is the Ohlins SCU upgrade - worth far more than the other mods, and cost less than the rest of them put together, too.
Further update: MRA Vario screen tested with supplied mounts PLUS Aztec Spacers. This leaves a big gap under the screen and it's less stable but the draugh coming off the front fairing under the sides of the screen is less concentrated. It still hits me on my chest at shoulder height, deflecting up under the helmet rim causing noise, but because it's less of a thin blade of a draught, is more bearable. I still want to try some HISS flaps to see if I can cut out this source of wind. also Fat Ducs now off - can't feel the slightest difference so they're going - see For Sale section in Forum.
I'm having to return my screen. I got it for my Multistrada 1200 Enduro and although it fits the bike and looks great, it doesnt allow me to use full lock when the screen is at its lowest setting. I have attached some pics: OK I'm not going to be using full lock that much but I can't use the steering lock with the screen at its lowest and if I really have to use full lock in an emergency it will also rip/smash the thing off the bike and cause more problems. As a result I've decide to err on the side of caution and return the screen. Has anyone tried the Puig screen for the Multistrada 1200 Enduro and does that fit better??
