1299 Superleggera Exhaust...now This Looks Promising!!

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Topolino, Sep 23, 2017.

  1. Any indication from them as to how loud it is? You mentioned that the pictures were from a track day...

  2. No, no info on that yet. Probably easier if you email them direct. They should be publishing some dyno figures soon as well. More info here:

  3. Whats that subframe. I prefer that if im honest.

  4. No idea. Maybe it's a Motoholders plain alloy one. If you need more info you can email redline direct. I should perhaps clarify that I am not acting on behalf of this company. I merely posted this up for interest.

  5. I've got one of those subframes I'd probably sell at a good discount, and a fibreglass tail and seat unit I've never got around to fitting.

  6. What a well built, well made and well thought out system. Looks fabulous.

I know they obviously not idiots from their care and attention, but Ducati, didn't; as far as I know didn't use titanium for the hot sections (headers), and I have seen some headers crack along the welds?
very cheap price/ nicely made/ great value

  9. not the outside matters; but what it looks inside? full penetration, no burn thro', and smooth for low turbulence
    look as good as Moto-corse

  10. combination of methods; all the lobster welds would be impossible to replicate manually start/finish is perfect and width penetration is perfect, but the two into one section in photo above is average on the weld edges and is done by hand, The machine welds also show perfectly even heat stain borders. the bottom horizontal weld is a combination machine butt weld finished by hand/eye. Horizontal hand welds appear to show some edge undercut; but believe me not many people can make pipes like this
I think only; Akropovic or Motocorse, good value but think possibly too loud? So very good value

I think the muffler mounts with cantilevered loads and bending moments at each end of the horizontal members, look like possible failure points. I think that idea is poor but wouldnt take much to improve look at photo, very poor idea
Instead of two pieces needs one continuous beam that will go from the right to left muffler, then the bending loads at the ends next to the center bolts (inhex, allen) are turned into a bending load on the beam
a beam folded with a U shaped section with end plates welded for the muffler conection, and the center bolts going vertically through the web of the beam and the two flanges providing the beam strength

  13. All valid points. Redline are keen to point out that this is still a product that can and is being further developed and with that in mind, why not email them with any reservations or observations you have, as they are not averse to feedback it seems. They are pretty quick to respond. More importantly, post up any replies you receive, as I have done.

  14. quiet advice? the exhaust is dangerous; designed like a cheese grater jeez gives me a limp one thinking of all your blood and stuff, Pal dont do it!!!!
; cheese grater.JPG it will hurt you?

  15. I note in one of the photos the lobsters look a little 'long' which makes the curve less smooth, more construction from straight pieces.
But I am only nit picking? for its price I can say I have never seen better

  16. I've emailed them again Sev with a link to this thread. Hoping they will chip in directly to answer any of our questions/concerns. They are apparently on iteration 7 and have 1.5k miles on it so not sure if this is a testament to the headers standing up to the heat/vibration or not. My only other reservation aside from any already raised on here is the bellypan, which for me is a little too bulbous. I'd like to see something more streamlined (as per the one used with the 1299SL full system when fitted). More like this (see pic below), though it might be too close to the pipes for heat being a shallower design.

  17. Sev, I've had this back from redline regards some points raised and the Ti headers. I do know that the headers are Ti moulded, so not sure if they mean the flanges (which would resumably then be machined) and then I assume the header section then welded to them.

"The current belly pan will not be inline with the bottom, we did put a little shark fin in it. Not so much for depth, but for cool.

We will be making two versions:
    1. Street use, so use with a kick stand.
    2. Track use: smooth and no kickstand hole.

For the RH heel guard, effectively the RH carbon fiber part IS the heel guard. We were giving some thought of providing a mini one...but there haven't been any requests.

Headers are full Ti Annealed and reinforced with some beefy welding. Thus far, we have heat cycled and raced the dickens out of the system. Other than performing well, no issues. To this end, we'll go so far as to 100% guarantee these headers for a year (barring crashes etc).

If cracking were an issue for Ti and heat, why are basically every other bike header made from Ti????? We saw this as either an Akrapovic design flaw and/or an excuse to cut costs.

Last, the pesky mounts...they are aluminum tubing. We are probably going to carbon fiber for this release in November."

  18. At the risk of getting a good kicking from you lot, and having looked closer, I don't like them? Think the quality is good but I think they don't look great. Around the belly pan and the back tyre, it all looks a bit hacked and home made

  19. My only gripe is the bellypan shape, but the routeing at the rear seems to necessitate a deeper profile, judging by the clearance. The one in this image is a prototype. The finished version will be carbon fibre, as will the muffler/end can brackets. They are supposed to be uploading some new images to the website soon and some dyno figures as well. It's a lot less convoluted than the SL factory system but the pipes are still equidistant. I would also like to see them fit the rubber block spacer as on the Akra system (if found to be needed), to keep the rear of the lower fairing clear of the front downpipe. See here:
