Hello All, Going to be doing oil change on the Mutley over the weekend,is it a good idea to look at the oil screen/gauze? if so what sealant is used when putting it back together.
Yes, take photos of the metal bits & if worried share on here or at your dealership. Just remember to fill the new oil filter & rub the oil on the outer rubber ring before screwing it on. Then proceed to put the rest of the oil in plus you'll need a new oil plug crush washer. Just use the 15W50 brand you've chosen or been advised to use. You can ignore the sticker on the engine as all manufactures get paid to advertise their brand on certain bikes.
Be careful tightening the oil plug. Either me or dealer stripped mine out. I used gray gasket sealant for screen. Put it on after draining and waited overnight to let it cure before adding oil and starting. Sorry I am not home so don't have specifics on sealant.
For the record (anyone who gives a damn) I filter all the fluids with coffee filters, coolant, brake fluid, engine oil. You can learn a lot just by looking at the sh*t that's left in the filter. Top tip: Buy a big box of em!
Oil Change done.No furry sump bung & no bits in oil screen, went for Motul 15/50 but one question i have is can the oil level be ok on the center stand because holding bike upright while looking at the level is impossible.
Why? I get on hands/knees and pull it upright from side stand. Find the balance point is upright with the wheels straight.
I doubt it will be right on centre stand. It's wrong on rear paddock. I'd rather be on a front and rear paddock stand than centre stand.
due to work and weather ive not been out but tommorow looks good. but ive noticed oil level has settled above top mark should i drain some or just ride on.
If your worried about bike being pointed down at front on centre stand, put a small chock under front wheel to raise slightly until the bike looks level. Job done.
same here. Guy asked me how to check his chain tension on a Honda 125 a few weeks ago. After about an hour I gave up. Pretty much the same here.
If you are talking the oil level is 1mm above top mark its OK - if sight glass is full - drain some out. You can do it via sump or using a syringe and tube through the oil fill hole or the screw/bung with a copper ring infront of it. TBH - its just as quick at the sump
On the fugly the indi mechanic told me never to fill it to the top level but always fill it to two thirds, would that be the same on the 12?
Thanks for the info, it was between top mark and full glass, took it out yesterday for 150 mile ride and no problems new oil make the gear shift slick....very happy biker
