Pirelli Corsa's - Lifespan

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Simon Gray, Oct 19, 2017.

  1. Yeah I can get that at low-ish speeds esp if I let the clutch out quickly.

Try riding with it a bit and get it backing in like Marquez!

Although he uses a slipper to do it

  2. I’d be guaranteed to fall off, only I don’t have the HRC budget to back me up

  3. Yeah that's the problem with trying new shit unfortunately!

  4. I had this reminder when at Pembrey.... as I've been used to knocking it down the gears on the Pani rest assured the slipper will soak it up... so on my ZX6R I'd forgotten that it didnt have one, it was a quick reminder approaching a corner and feeling the rear try to swap ends under braking and then loosing traction under power.. it was huge fun until I ended up sliding across the track thinking what just happened!

  5. That’s not the tyre making a noise ;)

  6. I didn’t think it was my arse

  7. And?

  8. He who denied it...

  9. What do you mean "And"? And what ffs? You getting all teacher-like on my ass?

  10. Yes, :) just joking.
By "and?" I meant is that negative or positive impact on tyre life? I get your point but I cannot decide how will that weight transfer impact the tyre wear.

  11. Perhaps some crossed wires here I dunno - I was responding to @JH_1986 regards slipper clutches vs stress on the rear tyre

  12. I have 1200 miles on a set of Corsa's and they need replaced. I will be putting a set of Metzeler M7 RR's on next, hopefully they will last longer. I would say I was riding no where near fast enough to get 1200 miles on a set of tyres!
31PSI Front 33PSI Rear, I'm 12 stone in the nip

  13. Heard alot if good things about the m7rr.

Anyone used them on a 1199/1299?
I'm wondering how they cope with the 100 foot pound of torque trying to rip them apart.

Mate raves about them on his 600 but that barely makes enough to pull the skin of rice pudding at 45 torques peak output

  14. My dad had them on his new KTM 1290 SuperDuke R. They didn’t last long. About 2,000 miles

  15. Pirelli’s are terrible for not lasting long. A hard day on track and they are pretty much good for the bin. If you want something comparable performance wise that lasts longer then take a look at the Dunlop’s. They are much better track tyre and the grip does not drop off like the Pirelli’s when worn. You can ride them right to the canvas and still do best lap times. The negative trade off is that they are more temperature sensitive so you have to get the pressures right. The Pirelli’s will still work pretty well when the pressures are out.

  16. That's not good at all.
    Anyone tried the Michelin RS

  17. Does this hold true for road Dunlop too or just track slicks?

  18. You mean new Power RS? Yep. Fine on road. First TD rear PSI was WAY to high on pressure and it literally fell apart. Did Rockingham last weekend at 30/26 HOT and they were pretty good.

But I'm far from a tyre or TD expert.

  19. As far as I know the Metzeler M7 RR's come as standard on the BMW1000RR so they should be able to handle the power ok but 2000 miles isn't what I would like to be getting out of my next set of tyres

  20. Yes, the same for the GP Racer which are the equivalent of the Supercorsas.
